Added reply in a thread 1999 rm125 will not start, please help!!! 2/26/2020 7:50 PM

It might be worth it to check timing. I think there should be a mark on the stator that aligns with a mark on the case. They should be aligned. If you have spark, fuel and compression timing is all I can think that’s left that would prevent it starting. ... more »

Thanks. Was he on eBay? I’ve had a hard time finding parts for the 88. I’ll look him up and see if he still has it if you happen to have his contact info.

Thanks for the response. This looks to be for an earlier RM. likely an 86 or 87. It’s close to what I need but unfortunately will not fit. Thanks for checking.

My suggestion would be to scour ebay for a cylinder and head. I would not use that head and I don’t like sleeved cylinders unless there are no other options. I bet you can find both a head and cylinder on eBay at a reasonable price. Check the crank too. ... more »

Nice work. Good to see you were able to fix the silencer clearance problem. I haven’t tried to fit my DEP silencer yet. I’ll post some pics when I do. I have a 96 CR250 carburetor ready to go. Any tricks to the install? Did you use the Suzuki throttle ... more »

Here's some photos of the DEP Silencer:

I haven't tried to install it yet. I'll let you know if I see any fitment issues once I install it. One issue I have is that I do not have the rubber grommet/fitting that goes into the large ... more »

Sandman, I have a 1988 too and ordered a DEP silencer. It just arrived at my house. I don’t have it installed yet but it is oval like the original. I can’t guarantee it won’t rub but it does look like it will fit well. I called DEP USA and they ordered ... more »

Sandman, Thanks for the Partszilla advice. The screen showing "where used" is very useful. With the CDI I have now I don't see any over rev. The aftermarket CDI I bought says it works for 1998-1993...but the OEM version covers from 86-88 and then 89-93

Sandman, Thanks very much for the tip to look for 86 or 87 units too. Turns out there was one on eBay. It’s on the way to me now. I’m looking forward to seeing if it makes a difference. Mike

Sandman, Thanks very much for the reply. Nice family photo you have there! I don’t think it is clutch slip. It feels like the bike simply runs flat. I did not try and change the timing by moving the stator plate. That’s a good suggestion. If i recall ... more »

I’m finishing up a refresh of a 1988 RM250. The bike did not have a spark which I managed to isolate to the CDI. I bought an aftermarket CDI which seems to work well but the bike seems to run out of pull at a lower RPM than expected. It comes on the ... more »

Very nice! Did you leave the engine as bare aluminum? I'm getting started on a rider build of an 88 RM250 and don't like the blue engine. I was thinking about going bare aluminum....wondering if that works OK?
