This is pic of me with my 73 Rokon RT 340 and 71 Maico 400 MC/GS. Yesterday, was the maiden voyage for these bikes -- and even though the temperature was in the low to mid 90`s the bikes ran great -- actually much better than I expected. Amazing, ... more »

Here's a pic of my bike that I'm picking in the next week or 2. It's a 1973 340 RT (Yellow-tanker). I owned a few years ago and stupidly sold it. I definitely won't be selling this one.

The bike was built for me with factory parts ... more »

Yep -- X3. I've owned and raced numerous Maico 400s, 440s, and 450. I prefer the Maico 400 to 440/450.

BTW BL, great thread/topic...And where in the world did you find the Suz and CZ prototype pics?..Good research, man.

Yeah, I think Barry Higgins owns that bike. Would love to ride that bike -- just one time. I catch a lot of crap for racing Maicos in the AHRMA scene, but nothing, no one, will ever dissuade me from owing, riding, and racing them. Been hooked on them ... more »

Dayumn...Nice find!...I think I mentioned this before, but the 490 is the next and last gotta have Maicos on my list. You obviously can't go wrong with a Maico from Carlos.

True-true...Crazy thing about that race is after that plug backed out in the first moto, he still managed a 10th place finish, and then came back to win the second moto. Roger D. went 1-2 for the day...It was Ake's championship to lose, and yeah, I guess

Unless he had a very early 72 in 71, I'm pretty sure he was on a square barrel...

Ake is one of my favorite racers of all time. Got two copies of his book entitled the "The Technique of Motocross," and I think it's still relevant race advice today. Always bummed for him that he never won a World Championship -- especially when that

I sold my 08 KTM 250XC this past Fall, so the unwashed from my last ride 83 Husky 430 is my main ride now...I was going to by a new 2014 Husky 300 TE, but ended buying my wife a new car for her birthday...I love riding this damn bike.

The 490 is the one bike that I'm missing in order to complete my Maico collection (addiction). Their not as easy to find (in decent condition) as they were 5 years ago.

I remember one day in the summer of '76 my Dad took me to pick my up hand me down 74 Honda XR75 from the Heyser cycle shop in Laurel, MD. It was my older brother's bike and he had outgrown it, ragged it out, and moved on to his new passion -- Lacrosse. ... more »
