Actually Pete, it's a 77 Yam IT400D. And it's going up for sale tomorrow evening. Very solid bike, with lots of extras included with sale. Also have a 1980 Can-am 250 Qualifier III that I posted up for sale on craigslist, Marks vintage swapmeet, and

Yeah, I'm feeling pretty swell. Wasn't yesterday though, because I spent ALL damn day working on my 77 Penton 250 GS6 in my hot, sweltering garage -- rebuilt the forks, changed sprockets, routine maintenance that just needed to be done. As far a ride ... more »

...to my garage. Picked up a new 2015 Beta 300RR today. Even though I have a decent little stable of vintage euro iron in my garage, I missed having a modern 2 stroke. Sold my 2008 KTM 250XC a little over two years ago and was quietly determining when

Added reply in a thread Do motorcycle hitch carriers work? 6/5/2015 9:11 AM

Yeah, they work. I've been using the Add-a-bike carrier for 6 years. Used a Ford Expedition and now a Toyota FJ Cruiser to haul heavy ass post vintage mud covered (245 pound plus mud) big bore Husqvarnas and Maicos to and from races all over the US. ... more »

Nah. Nice try -- heh-heh. Nothing against Maico, but in my world Maicos ended with the 1981 models, and with the beginning of the single shock platform in '82.

Owned, ridden, raced Maicos. Still own, ride, and race Maicos. Got other several brands in the garage, but still own more Maicos than any other bikes in the collection. Yeah, guess I should've just said I got a thing for Maicos.

An old military trick from back in the day when I wore non-breathable full leather combat boots. First, always have two pair of boots, and rotate them. Second, make up a mixture of 70/30(full strength if needed) clorox/water in a an old spray bottle. ... more »

Todd, Congrats on the XR. My first real dirt bike was a 74 Honda XR-75. Did you go to the York (PA) Swapmeet yesterday? Well I did and had no intention of buying anything substantial. However, I did bring my bike hitch carrier just in case a friend needed

I've owned 3 or 4 types of hitch carriers. The best one I've owned (and still do) is the Add a bike hitch carrier: http://www.addabike.com/HOME.html I've had this thing for 7 years, and have used it to haul modern and vintage bikes all around, up and ... more »

The 400 AW is a great bike. Like any used bike, check the swingarm, steering, and wheel bearings. Also make sure there is no heavy pitting or rust on the pit tubes. Quick way to check the crank on this bike, is to remove the mag side cover, grab the ... more »
