I have a 16 250 sxf and I've ridden both the 17 Honda and KTM 450s (not back to back), each right after getting off of my 250. Going from my 250 to the Honda 450, I was surprised by how light the Honda felt. Going from my 250 to the KTM 450, I thought ... more »

You'll probably be able to ride a 250 2 stroke, but you will also probably be tentative and uneasy about it, at least for a while (I say this from experience). Flywheel weights and pipes help but not much. If you get a 125 or 150 2 stroke, you'll be ... more »

I'm not sure going from a TTR 225 to a 450 or 250 2 stroke is the best idea. I just got back into riding a few years ago after over 20 years and the first bike I bought was a YZ 250 2 stroke. That was a mistake. I was never comfortable on the bike - ... more »

Another vote for the 125 2 stroke. The YZ is probably the best choice, but realistically, any brand will do just fine - condition matters more than brand. I am the father of a 15 year old who is just learning how to ride, and I got him a TTR 125 to develop ... more »

The TM 125 I talked about in my prior post. Great little bike with high quality components and a fantastic, screaming engine.

I'm 45 and just got back into riding again at 43 after 20 + years of not touching a bike. I initially bought a YZ 250 2 stroke. I was somewhat oblivious to just how much of a beginner I was going to be - especially on the local sand track. After struggling ... more »
