Added reply in a thread Fork swap experts triple clamp questions 11/18/2020 12:40 PM

No, 0.600 mm is massive. For reference, we try to hold our clamp diameter to +/- .015 mm. You'll need a shim or similar to do it right.

This is correct, I didn't catch the year of the four stroke! So it's even easier now, you should be able to just swap the forks over.

Added reply in a thread YZ/YZF fork swap 11/16/2020 5:16 PM

The two stroke forks have a larger top clamp diameter than the four-stroke forks. You could swap the triple clamps along with the forks, but the stem length is different between the two stroke and four stroke. The easiest thing to do would be to find ... more »

Repeatability of the torque (and the torque wrench) is important, but not actually the parameter of interest. Repeatability of the clamping load is what we're after. The clamping load is proportional to torque, but dependent on friction. So the repeatability

We've done the exact same test, but had different results... The reality is that any triple clamp will distort the lower tubes and cause stiction as the bushing passes through the interface if there is too much torque applied. But if the clamps are properly ... more »

Make it as simple as possible for the consumer. Expensive is fine ($70 isn't really expensive); it saves screw-ups in the install and their related costs too. Having happier customers after a trouble free install is worth it compared to (maybe more customers) ... more »

Yep, it's been a problem for our international customers too. We're only offering USPS Priority International and UPS now because of it, but those are expensive. We've had to eat the cost of at least five lost packages and send out new parts as replacements ... more »

No, the stock GasGas clamps are solid mounted and don't have the right geometry for the rubber cones. You would need to buy a new top triple clamp to get rubber mounts.

Added reply in a thread Can you patent an idea? 10/11/2020 1:35 PM

A non-disclosure agreement is free and will at least allow you some protection when discussing the project, so definitely do that. As others have said, a patent only gives you the ability to sue to protect your concept. If you can't afford a lawsuit, ... more »

The air/spring bar mounts are fairly easy to remove, but the air only ones are a lot more difficult. Why do you want to remove them?

The aluminum cones will fix the twisting issues for a lot less money, but then you lose all the benefits of rubber mounted bars. You'll feel a lot more vibration and impact in your hands. Some people prefer that, though, so if that works for you, then ... more »

Our mounts are the same as stock in height and offset. We include 5mm titanium spacers to adjust the height as well so you have either stock or +5mm height options.

Really? That's annoying. Cut em off then and put a new one on that's easier to move. You can stretch it over the fork lug, so no need to disassemble the forks. Zip ties always make me cringe... This one works well: https://www.mcmaster.com/9262K206/

Why are you running a tip-tie on the fork tube? The o-rings (currently bottomed out on both sides) are there for that!

The video shows what looks like a factory edition 450 with the exhaust and clamps (likely just showing off the accessories), but the actual production 450 uses forged clamps like the 250. They have solid mounted handlebars as well (yuck!), similar (identical?)

It can be done, but it's a lot of effort. You need a special tool and a bunch of heat to break the loctite. I'd just go without it!
