Reply to If he doesn't retire, will JS7 lose his number? 8/27/2017 1:45 PM

Why would the AMA want to make him happy? What has JS7 done for them lately? Some guys like Mike Brown, John Dowd and Ryan Sipes worked pretty hard to make a few races and hang on to their number after the quit racing full time and people gave them shit ... more »

I understand what you are saying, we have seen the AMA change rules at will, but why would they hold a number for a guy who has not finished a race in almost 2 years and only a couple in the last 3+ years? I really dont think they would hold it if Osborne ... more »

Personally, I'd take the 8 also.

Stew is never coming back, Osborne should take the 7 if he wants it.

Any list that does not have O'Show at the 86 MXdN on a 125 as #1 or Magoo sweeping in '82 on it is invalid. Herlings rode great, he had everyone covered and he was clearly the fastest rider, but that was not in any way a legendary ride worthy of a "greatest" ... more »

I dont care if he wins or not, I was very impressed with his speed in practice on a track he has never seen, the bike I think is a non-issue. I think its cool he is doing an AMA round and I am just going to enjoy it. I hope he and other GP riders do ... more »

Gatorback sucked anyway, I have no idea why anyone would ever schedule an AMA national or GP race there.

I love hardtails, I have several, and it is true that they are sort of like a 125 two stroke in that they force you to be precise and efficient with your riding. I will always have a hardtail in my stable of bikes but even for pro XC racing full suspension ... more »

I agree 100%, today there is no reason to ignore a 27.5 or 29, the right bike will do what you want it to do no matter what wheel size it happens to have. The reason I suggested the 5" travel trail bike is because they have a massive "sweet spot" of ... more »

Those Motobecane Hal5 or Hal6s are killer deals and are good bikes.

I almost forgot about this one, the Marin Hawk Hill is a 120mm 27.5 and its an super good deal at $1399 new at Performance Bike, there is not a better "bang for the buck" deal right now. The best thing about the Hawk Hill is its under $1500, has pretty ... more »

Yes, that Stumpy is another good example of a 5" trail bike. That category is the most popular bike for a reason and EVERY brand makes a bike like that. Look for a used one, in addition to the bikes already named, something like a Trek Fuel, YT Jeffsy, ... more »

I agree with the above, 27.5 or 29 doesnt matter, both are fine. Get a 5" (120-130mm) travel 27.5 or a 4-4.5" (100-115mm) travel 29er trail bike. Who gives a shit if someone "makes fun of you" for riding a 29er? The people in this thread saying 29ers

I'm totally cool with trash talking other riders, IMO not enough of that is done today, but why go after a guys Dad unless he went after you? I dont get it, thats all.

On the one hand I understand where BB4 is coming from, he is a former national champion who used to school ET and probably feels like he has been written off somewhat by the media and the industry. I also understand former clients of Baker having beef ... more »

BTW....I still have my pair of Nike PooBah MTB shoes like the ones he is wearing in this picture, along with my 1991 Raleigh. Yes, I was a John Tomac fan.

Reply to John Tomac? 4/25/2017 6:08 PM

This is why they call him "Gnarly John". Everyone else is carrying or pusing their bikes and he is pedaling up. He did this all the time and in 1991 probably lost the XC World Cup to Thomas Frischknecht because he wouldnt get off and carry his bike,

Monster Mountain, or somewhere else in Alabama, Georgia or Florida, we need a race actually in the SE. No offense to Muddy Creek but that is not "South East".
