Sunny Namur.

So the Namur GP was epic again. We left Friday morning for the 3 hour ride. Arrived around noon at Namur and with the parking pass we drove all up to the Citadel and parked the van right next to the track. Base camp was all set.

We unloaded the minibikes and checked out the place. Nothing really changed on the track. I like it like that. The track is basically the same as it was in the early 80’s when we first visited Namur.

On Friday afternoon there was the Monte Namur ride and Stefan Everts was riding the track too. Myself, and not too many other people, believed he actually would ride it so I left my camera in the van and missed maybe the last opportunity to take riding pics of the King. Damn. (At least I saw Dave Thorpe win the Sunday Veterans race. Got some nice shots of him.)

Later in the afternoon we hooked up with some Brits and an Ozzie to do the track walk. This will take you at least an hour. I brought my camera and photographed the completed track with a wide angle lens. Think I might upload them to my Pbase.com page one of these days.

We slept at the track in the van the first night but were lucky to get in the hotel after all for the second night. Flooding problems were solved.Friday and Saturday night were as expected. Have diner with the blokes and find a bar the have some more beers. Lots of moto bullshitting, always a good laugh. On Saturday night we just could walk into the hotel and go to sleep, but on Friday we had left the van at the track and had to ride up the citadel in the dark. That was pretty cool. Race up an old castle in the dark on a minibike is something I don’t get to do very often.

Saturday and Sunday racing was great. With all the  guys mixing it up it was very difficult to keep up on the overalls. During the last MX2 moto, we were with a bunch of photographers on the infield guessing who would actually win the GP. One said it would be Goncalves, I thought it could be Searle but in the end it was Guarneri with 4-3 scores.

You can find my pics of the event in the photo sections of this website or on my Pbase page:http://www.pbase.com/jefro98/2007_namur_gp

Next up it the British GP at the last weekend of August. Stay tuned.
