Yeah, I'm not understanding the logic of these guys thinking there is some benefit to be had putting a YZ125 engine in a newer YZ250F chassis to get "slimmer and more modern". The YZ250F is fatter and funkier in every way compared to the YZ125.

What a missed opportunity by NBC. They could plug a new sponsor and generate some more $$ by making this the inaugural "Quik-Trip quick trip of the Night". Then in each round when someone Mookie's themselves over the bars they become the subject of and ... more »

OK, so riddle me this. Do you think the various Yamaha factory teams even followed that 15:1 guidance with their own bikes? Have you ever spoken to the actual engineers from the Yamaha factory that designed the YZ engines about the topic of break in ... more »

Oh, forgot to mention, since this is a 27yr old carb you're using, there's a good chance the jet-block o-ring may be flattened, cracked, or otherwise leaking. If it is, it will make the bike run like crap with intermittent leanness and richness that ... more »

Added reply in a thread 1987 Kawasaki KX250 jetting help 3/11/2021 4:49 PM

No experience with this situation specifically, but a 155 main sounds crazy lean for a 250. You'll typically only see mains in the 160-165 range on a 250 for tight woods or in very hot temps and/or high elev. Maybe what you're perceiving as richness ... more »

They still have both the Pillow Top and Pillow Top-Lite. Just make sure you don't screw up and get the Pillow-Top clamp -on style. They are very small diameter and have no resemblance to the full Pillow Tops.

The axle clamp bolts are the same M8x40mm part as the lower triple clamp bolts. Pretty much everything I typed out still applies. You need to make sure you have enough material there to actually drill, tap, and insert a heli-coil(s). It sounds like you'd ... more »

EFI or carb bike? Electric or kick start? Difficulty starting is usually the first sign. Kick start bike will not want to kick start but will bump start. If they get really bad it won't even want to bump start. E-start bike will crank longer than usually ... more »

Added reply in a thread Stripped Pinch Bolt Threads 3/9/2021 5:50 AM

Are we talking upper or lower triple clamp? The bolts in the lower are 40mm long and the upper are 45mm long. So if it's a lower you can try an upper bolt to see if it grabs threads. Only grabbing onto the last 5mm of threads isn't exactly ideal although ... more »

Added reply in a thread New Yamaha yz 125 gas/oil mixture for break-in 3/9/2021 5:27 AM

Do the 32:1. Don't do 15:1. There have been guys that have seized their pistons following Yamaha's extra oil for break-in guidance. Richer oil:gas ratio = leaner gas:air ratio.

Probably all the oil that leaked down into the spark plug well got on the tip of the plug and inside the cap. Clean that all up with contact cleaner, blow it all out with air and get it completely dry and try again.
