Your bike is really awesome, I love the attention to detail. I would suggest you put some titanium bolts here and there (engine, triple clams, front axle clamps, rear axle nut). But that would be pretty expensive.

Added reply in a thread Putting 250T engines into aluminum frame 10/5/2011 7:41 AM

You could also gusset your existing steel frame and change your suspension. For 2000 maybe you can get an A kit somewhere on eBay. Or some Sölva or Öhlins. If you set it for your weight you have a real weapon of mass destruction. I think you have more ... more »

Added reply in a thread Putting 250T engines into aluminum frame 10/5/2011 3:03 AM

The OEMs do heat treat their frames. Service Honda does too. This is because it is simply required for high strength aluminium. Read any aluminium engineering book and see it for yourself. There are however some aluminium alloys which keep around 90% ... more »

Added reply in a thread Putting 250T engines into aluminum frame 10/3/2011 10:21 AM

Do you mind sharing the type of aluminium used in the frame? Because I fear 6000 or 7000 series aluminium is used. These metals have to be heat treated or aged after welding. Otherwise cracks can occur and frame failure is imminent. This is what I mean ... more »

Awesome work, do you have any screenshots of the analysis? I am very interested Have you also considered the material degradation of the aluminium itself in the FEM analysis? Did you also consider frame torsional and lateral ridgidity? And what is the ... more »

Good point you have there. I think you hit the nail on that one. What should be added is that in the world of amateur motocross (which about 99,5% of all riders are) there are very few who can ride a 450 to it's full potentional and are (arguably) better ... more »

@Premixed Amen, well said @Rmpilot I think it is for weight reduction and looks. Because the metal at those points is less stressed when subjected to bending. The same you see in some steel roof constructions
