I understand that. I wouldn't take an $89 steel full suspension bike on the trail either. The point is we are not talking about any sort of exotic or difficult to work with material here. It's rolling daily out the doors of the crappiest, lowest tech, ... more »

They are selling complete, assembled shitty full suspension aluminum monocoque-style frame mountain bikes at WalMart for $89.

Because it's a 2-stroke engine in a more modern RM-Z chassis build? And modern RM-Zs have aluminum frames... It is what they wanted it to be.

Just get over it. It handles like a yellow turd, Bro.

I really don't think there is that much of a savings there, manufacturing-wise. KTM still uses the PDS system on their off-road models where it is preferred over links for maintenance reasons. They aren't priced any cheaper than their mx models; it's ... more »

As I mentioned before, the USD has killed the Yen since 2000. Significant portion of the time since then, the Yen has been down 20% from 1999. That definitely has had a downward pressure on the price of Jap dirtbikes vs a simple CPI adjustment.

It seems we need to give some more focus on "run what you got classes". Say like, air cooled 125-250 four stroke class (or whatever). There's no reason an XR200 shouldn't be raceable against like machines, if that's what some kid or adult owns. (Note: ... more »

An SSR (Asiawing) 250F is about $3700. Want something of less dubious manufacturing origin? Consider this; A CRF125F costs $3300. So price ain't getting down there. Maybe we just need to focus more on classes that allow people to race affordable bikes ... more »

Yeah, the new 4 stroke MXers def have a lot more R&D costs tied to the sticker than, say, a YZ125. On the other end of the cost chain, they do have some economy-of-scale advantages, as they are pushing significantly more units.

Probably just called for motor oil, but I'd use Type F ATF, till it comes out the weep-hole with the bike level.

Another thing that is not factored in a straight CPI comparison is that generally for the last 20 years the USD has kicked the Yen's ass to the tune of often around 20% of 2000 values. That should have (and probably did) give us pretty solid downward ... more »

It's not interchangable with a 4 stroke frame-wise in any way. The two-stroke engine has a center port exhaust that splits the frame cradle. The guys who build these models like the one pictured basically need to cut out a large portion of the cradle ... more »

It is definitely AHRMA-Sportsman class era even if post '74 model year based on the '73-style shock design.

Added reply in a thread New 2 stroke,barn find 7/31/2016 7:32 PM

Yeah '73 or '74 360 But for some reason I wanna say '74 had lay down shocks, but it may be 1975 that they switched.

Absolute steal. If the engine turns at all, it is easily worth 1500 in current condition without any cleanup, or even getting it running. And you could swap off the shocks for NJBs and still get that.

Let us not forget, that the year Suzuki assaulted our eyes with that color scheme ('92) was also the one year Yamaha decided that the proper color for their bike and entire motocross branding should be HOT PINK.

In my mind, the hideous day-glo animal print RMs and Guy Cooper will be forever paired.

Added reply in a thread Factory Suzuki going retro! 7/29/2016 4:51 PM

That is a retro one. It's kind of a mashup of the '81-'85 bike and graphical scheme.
