Gas Gas handily beat KTM/Husky models in both 450 and 250 Vital shootout. Apparently since the testers like that direction, "Factory Edition" can be the one that's even more basic than stock Gas Gas.

The KX100 with a stock pipe is pretty linear as far as smokers go. It doesn't really have a lot of "hit" anywhere in the curve. It just kind of builds up until it signs off. Very easy to ride stock, but may not have the excitement you may be hearing ... more »

For someone who wants an old school full-sized XR-style trail bike with some modern conveniences, Kawi has brought back the KLX300R but with EFI, e-start and updated ergos. And it's realtivey low-priced, as you would want for that type of bike.

It may be the case that if you can expand your budget by 1500 and you may be edging into the category of later model, lower hours bikes. Like your friends said (and they give fair advice), you will spend that anyways.

As a KDX owner, I'll note that they have been out of production for 15 years, and certain new OEM parts are no longer available, an issue that will only expand. They are a fun, reliable, and easy to ride trail bike that you can still push to race-level ... more »
