This must have been the guys next to me last year at Seattle. Watching the nitwit in front of me and a client we took to the race along with his two grade schoolers. It was epic.

Bottom line is he'll either fail or not. One of the locals up here in the PNW is a local pro but ended up getting into the main. Yes he's trying to pay his dues, but, he just went paid the money and qualified. Not sure why that would disqualify this ... more »

Add to that the fact that they may not know where to ride, how to ride, or how to maintain a bike. If there is a desire to get into the sport, it can be done for less than 4G's with a used bike but, there is no infrastructure in place to help new entrants get their feet on the ground.

I think it all comes down to the cost to physically own a dirtbike. In 2006 I was able to talk my mom into buying me a last year model rm125 for around $3,000. That was a good entry level, full size, bike. That simply doesn't exist anymore.
With that price in mind, many of the smaller bikes were much less expensive, and more...more

Agree. I've thought about starting an MX club up here but time is tough. Candidly one of the best parts of being at a track is meeting other riders and learning from them. Met some great folks at local races and track days. The tough part is actually putting a program together that will work. The tracks are standalone and while they do often work together they are all independent. There doesn't seem to be any organization that is truly trying to attract new people to this sport.

The sport will grow as soon as price and accessibility to compete and ride grow. I moved out to Portland Or 8 years ago and discovered the miles of offroad trails available. That brought me back into riding. Going to Washougal fired the desire to get on a track and actually ride MX. I'd never ridden MX before but had ridden dirt bikes (I'm slow at both). There are 7 MX tracks within an hour and a half of Portland. Lots of riding and lots of racing. My thinking is that it is VERY hard for someone who has no background to enter the sport with their kids. The diversity of riders must increase, the inclusion must improve and yes the prices must fall. Candidly, this is a great, family oriented sport but it is extremely intimidating for a newb parent or adult rider to enter without some level of help. The local level's need more ambassadors to the sport or it will wither and die. When the 40 plus classes outnumber riders in the kids classes that means new folks are not coming to it.

Did you install the CX or the X?

The Radius CX probably. I had tgat on my 17 kx and loved it. Was asking about the 19 KX because of the hydraulic clutch. Wanted buyer feedback on it for install advice. Also wondered if it changed the hydraulic clutch feel.

I'm a 52 novice MXer. I traded my 17 KX450 on the 19. Love the bike but hate the pull. Had a Radius X on my 17 and loved it. Wondered if anyone has put one on their 19 KX and had some insight into install and performance. Would love some feedback before ... more »

For a sport that has as much privateer engagement this race was a significant setback. I feel for the guys who actually have to spend their money on parts, bikes not to mention the rashes and health issues that this caused. It's a bad look and one the AMA needs to weigh in on.

Started new thread RaceTech SCS Spring Conversion System on 2017 KX450F 11/19/2018 1:59 PM

So I have this in another post but thought I'd share my thoughts on the difference the SCS gives over the stock SFF-TAC fork on this bike. For starters I'm a 51 Vet - Novice 200 Lb dude. I bought the bike in March of 18 as a leftover for $5,999. I'd ... more »

This will sound smart a$$ but there's really nothing you can do other than find a motor and start over. The engine builder will not cover this after 25 hours and I'd be leary of him touching more of my motors based on what you've said his response is. ... more »
