Colondences

I don't know what made me think of him after all these years. Maybe it's just nostalgia, or maybe it was the recent heart attack that damned near killed me but I find myself thinking back more often than thinking ahead these days.

As a kid I was a fairly decent Motocross Racer, and way back in the early 1970's I had occasion to be in Southern California around the time of year the World Mini Grand Prix was being held at the old Indian Dunes MX Park. It was there I met a kid named Monty McCoy and his father. My own bikes were home in New York at the time, so I was competing with a Honda SL-70 that I had borrowed from my cousin's neighbor's kid who didn't seem at all to care about even the most minimal maintenance, it ran like crap. Anyway I removed the head and tail lights, stuck a number plate on it an went racing, quite unsuccessfully i might add. It was in the "pit area" that I met Monty and his Dad, who made a few adjustments to the bike I was using for me, that at least kept it from stalling every time I let off the throttle. It was a minor thing, but it was, none the less, a kindness. Monty went on to great success that day riding what, I was told,(or at least I remember being told) was a somewhat cobbled together SL-70.

Anyway, like I said, I don't what made me think of him after all these years, but a google search led me to this site where, I am sorry to say, I learned of his passing. Although it is long after the fact, I wish to offer my condolences to his family and friends.
