He is a top competitor. KTM expects it and his fans do too. It’s amazing that you think that just meeting expectation is amazing. If that’s true, riders who can’t podium must need a class on the difference between what the right grip does and what the ... more »

Webb gapped him and MM quit or settled. That’s better than what Tomac did. Yes, he put 4 seconds on him. How many laps and at what time did Webb achieve this incredible feat! I’m guessing, the 18th minute? Also, one second a lap is massive. In a 20 lap ... more »

At best, it can be said that he rode as good as KR (by 1/2 a wheel) and slightly better than MM. if that’s what it takes to be labeled “exceptional” what are the other two, merely adequate? If that’s the case it doesn’t look good for the rest of the ... more »

Just saw the race. From the comments I was expecting something exceptional. It didn’t happen. It took Webb 20 minutes to close ~6 seconds. Wow, big deal. I’m not a KR fan but anybody can throw a block in the last corner and upset the target. There really ... more »

Motorcycles are supposed to be inexpensive. I have a hard time believing that a 450 costs 2/3rds the price of something like a base Ford Fiesta. At this cost motorcycles have lost their value but... they are fun. The bicycle industry has the same problem. ... more »

Except Trek, Specialized, and Giant each own >20% of the bicycle market. Then Cannondale at 10%. There isn’t a lot of room for boutique makers. That said, it is a way to invite yourself to a new kind of party and in time either expand, merge, or sell ... more »

Added reply in a thread What went down with Alta and Harley Davidson? 1/27/2019 12:17 AM

Harley doesn’t have a history of turning investments into profits: Buell, MV, Aermacchi. In fact, when they pull the plug they generally lose their pants.

I’ve got a 955i ce since new. It took me 15 years to abolish the Triumphness on that bike. It runs pretty well now. My KTM was a Honda in comparison to my typically English product.

Owned a KTM years ago. It was more expensive and took more time to maintain. Engine parts were forged instead of cast and it had some parts that were from quality aftermarket suppliers but, you didn’t just go and buy a part at the stealership. They often ... more »

Here’s the rest of the story, the EU has a 48% tariff on Chinese made bikes. Mine has Chinese stickers, don’t know if it was painted, stickered up, and assembled somewhere else. https://m.pinkbike.com/news/bike-industry-weighs-in-on-tariffs-of-chinese-mountain-bike-imports-2018.html ... more »

At the time I purchased the bike all of the 2017 models were on discount. I claimed the German bike was $1000 more than a similar build and year American bike. I did not specify but I did not imply a German ‘17 vs US ‘18.

Tell me about it. Lived in Alaska and Hawaii. In Alaska in 2008 a gallon on milk was > $8. Hawaii still sucks.

I said that I support the US position on tariffs based on the E.U. tariffs and other actions. The bike is a S6E disk H-M. It isn’t high end but also not mid. Let me see what I can find on your car challenge.

It is. When you have a 10% tariff and then a foreign currency that is up to 15% undervalued, according to the IMF, it is significant and more than just tariffs.

It is significantly more than that. For example, it is argued that the euro benefits from currancy manipulation. Why was my Cannondale $1,000 more than a comparable bike in the U.S., even at 50% off from the manufacturers suggested retail price?
