I’m curious how people on the right and left view this one consistently.
The DOJ apparently expanded the settlement tied to Trump’s IRS lawsuit so that the IRS is permanently barred from auditing prior tax claims involving Trump, his family, and related businesses.
Not ‘they reviewed them and found nothing’. Not the statute expired’. Just the government agreeing ahead of time to never pursue or audit them again.
Even setting Trump himself aside for a second, does anyone honestly think Americans would accept this if:
Obama did it?
Clinton did it?
Biden did it?
Gavin Newsom did it?
Any Fortune 500 CEO did it?
And before someone says “well the IRS leak was illegal”, yes the leak absolutely was illegal and the people responsible should be punished. But that’s a completely separate issue from granting what looks an awful lot like retroactive audit immunity.
The other weird part is that this appears to involve the executive branch effectively negotiating with itself, since Trump is president while the DOJ and IRS are executive agencies. Even some legal analysts were already raising conflict-of-interest concerns about the original lawsuit months ago.
I honestly can’t think of another example where a sitting president’s administration agreed that tax authorities could never revisit prior filings for the president, his family, and related entities.
Maybe someone here can.
Maybe if Trump owned a peanut farm he'd be held more accountable.
I....got....nothing.😶
Just another corrupt politician...
We're literally a banana republic now. Nothing else to say.
The president is stealing, embezzling and enriching himself completely shamelessly, not even trying to hide it and nobody does a thing.

I genuinely don’t know how anyone can continue to defend this guy and I’ve always leaned conservative.
But but but. Biden.. or something like that to justify Trumps blatant theft.
...and created a $1.776B Insurrectionist Slush Fund.
Boundless blatant corruption.
Who do you think should do something?
The amount was a chefs kiss.
Every representative elected by the people.
Guys hang tight! He’s playing 47D chess.
Maybe this has something to do with the fact his political opponents have weaponized the legal system against him (and burned thru taxpayer dollars) for the last 10 years? Or the main stream media has worked up the left wing base so hard as to have no less then 3 assassination attempts against him? I'll take the high road here, and I wont even mention the financial wrong-doings of The Clinton Foundation, Paul Pelosi's stock market wonders, Burisma Holdings in Ukraine, and Ilhan Omar becoming a multi millionaire immediately after being elected to Congress.
Trump is also the guy that has talked quite a bit about doing something those people and their actions that you mentioned. Yet, not jack shit has been done. All talk no action. Don’t worry though. I’ll be so happy that I got audited by the IRS because I deducted my cell phone bill on my business taxes and wrote off some of my dirt bike racing as advertising.
I want the same legal, constitutional hammer to slam down on any and all of those that mis-use any elected office.
Idgaf about parties...this ain't no party, this ain't no disco, this ain't no foolin' around.
It doesn't matter who's cutting a hole in the boat...we're all gonna drown.
You know it’s ok , even if you have a favorite president. To say “yea I don’t agree with this” and move on right?
The art of the deal lol
It’s getting worse than even I thought it could. I can’t wait till donnie goes to jail. But we all know that isn’t going to happen
Hmm. . .
Crickets from the usual Trump lapdogs on this one.
Hell, even TM (who will jump in and blindly attempt to defend his guy for anything & everything) is laying low on this one.
Maybe in an ideal world, but elected representatives don't represent the people, they represent whoever is paying them.
Pit Row
What are the details? Seems like lip service from the DOJ, understanding it won’t hold up under scrutiny. But can’t be bothered to read the minutiae.
They are in the thread downvoting any mean words against their dear leader, while they await their favorite podcaster to tell them why this is OK and which terrible thing Biden/Clinton/Obama did that was way worser.

Can you tell me who’s paying them the most? Be specific.
I don't have access to that information, 3 letter US government agencies would be able to find out!
Miriam Adelson and the like.
One day you will grow up and realize they are all on the same team, hopefully.
FYI, you are not on the aforementioned team.
Wait for it…
So Trump backed Republican boot lickers won all the Republican primaries. I don’t think that’s so crazy.
Too bad Massie got booted. One of the only republican officials that actually would’ve been good for America. Too bad he is anti-Israel lobby, that ended him. $33 million spent to defeat him, chump change for Elon to spend
Oh well back to real life trying to find a good river to fish of of I90
If it set a realistic and actionable precedent that the government will be held accountable for misuse of its power against citizens I would be all for it. If any random person on this message board won a settlement like that I would be happy.
But in reality, just a politician(any politician you listed), especially the president, getting it looks absolutely terrible.
Post a reply to: So… the DOJ just agreed the IRS can never audit Trump or his family again?
