USA Trip, advices needed

Hello,

in summer 2026 (08/14 to 08/29) i'm planning a trip over the ocean with my GF. We will land in NY, and will visit the sorrounding area (Washington D.C., Niagara Falls, over to Vermont and Maine). As an hardcore moto fan i'd like to do something related to it. My main goal was to ride at an iconic track, the closer to the route would be Unadilla, but they told me that they don't rent any bikes/gear and do not know anybody that does in that area. Also in August they usually host the national (sigh!) so it's busy time for them. The other iconic MX track close to my route is Budds Creek, do any of you know if they rent? Are there any historic tracks close to my route? High Point is too far for our likings...

If i can't really ride, i'd like at least to attend a National race, but then i would still wait for the schedule to come out and hope that Budds or Unadilla races are in the time i will be over there.

I'm quite lost, USA are big A.F. and i don't know very well the MX places over there, so any tip/idea/advice is welcome.

Thank you to whoever will reach out. <3

Reach out to Scotty Drake. He owns The Compound Mx Facility in Fulton, NY. Great guy and always willing to help.

I'm South African. Was over there in 2019 with my rider. Scotty hooked us up properly whilst we were preparing to race the 19' Outdoor series.

Good luck dude.

DC to Niagara is quite the hike. It’s gotta be 7-8 hour drive. You could always check out Breezewood Proving Grounds in PA for some good riding. I’m not sure what your route is, but it’s probably about 2 hours from DC. Then head to Harrisburg, PA from there for additional historical sightseeing such as capitol park, the MLK memorial, the civil war museum, Hershey chocolate factory, etc.

Southwick. They have local races there all the time

I guess I don't consider 6-7 hours to be that big of a deal?

OP is from Italy, doesn’t take much longer than that to drive the entire length of their country

New England has some awesome tracks. Southwick in Mass. For Maine there is mx207, and if you go a little further north into Maine, Hemonds is amazing. That time of year the weather should be awesome. I think they still do open practice days, but ive been out of the loop for almost 10 years now.

I'll also second the Breezewood mx in PA suggestion. I've never been, but ive heard nothing but great things about that place.

Non-moto related, go on the boat at Niagra falls, and bring some sandals to wear on the boat. You will get wet, but it is totally worth it. And if you like buffalo wings, you absolutely must go to the resturaunt Bar-Bill in the Buffalo area. Both Bar-Bill locations are awesome, but I always recommend the original spot in East Aurora.

I'm not sure that motocross bike rentals exist on the east coast of the U.S.

As for attending a National, if the schedule returns to normal with Ironman being the final round (it was moved up this year due to hosting the Motocross of Nations) then Unadilla will likely be August 8th and Budds Creek August 15th, so that could make it challenging as the race would be the day after you arrive.

The other pro tracks in the northeast are High Point (Pennsylvania) and Southwick (Massachusetts) but their Nationals are in June and in general these pro tracks are not open to the public very often. Other than Southwick they are usually only able to be ridden once or twice a year when they have special events.

Unadilla did have open amateur practice the Friday of the National this year so if they do that again for 2026 you could possibly do both, ride an iconic track and watch a Pro National, but that would require you to, more than likely, move your trip up a couple of weeks and find a bike to ride.

Yeah RedBud is like 8 hours drive and i don’t think my GF is down to such a drive to let me spin couple laps in the dirt🤣.

Yeah MX207 is a great idea i’ll reach them out, Southwick and Budds Creek would be nice too but i still have the problem of gears+bike rent…

In Italy (Northern) most of the bigger tracks offer bike+gears renf for 200€/day. I’d expect that in America too, especially on the most famous tracks

I'm in the target area for your trip, not too far from Dilla or the compound as boom mentioned (They're scheduling has been slowing down as its been for sale, unfortunately). You've got quite the area to cover from what you've mentioned. For what its worth i've always wanted to ride Ciglione Malpensa. I spent a fair amount of time over there in the north (Milan/Maranello/Bologna) for work and people would think I was insane to have driven 3 hours to a track to ride and 3 hours home same day. Lot of colleagues there seemed to ride enduro more so than Moto.

I'm not familiar with any tracks that rent bikes, but shoot me a message and I can help you out with plans ect. Unadilla doesnt run really any open practice, I think this year they ran open practice on the pro track day before/after the national but you're looking at like 2 or 3 10-15 minute motos per day. The Wick will run Open practices but again not sure of anyone that rents bikes.

What I would do for some gnocco frito and good lambrusco from the modena region right now....

Ahahahahahhaha Ciglione della Malpensa is like 1 hour from home and i ride there regularly. Hard pack old style mx track.

Thanks everybody for the tips… i’m guessing i’ll just wait for the 2026 national schedule and hope budds creek/ unadilla are the last 2 rounds hoping i’ll be able to attend them… wish me luck…

If you can get a bike signing up for the amateur race is the way to go, great camping spots and watch the national the next day.

Leave her at home. Send a postcard.

Double the fun at half the cost. 😅

Yep I just happen to see it after taking the rental car from Malpensa and heading to area of our office. certainly does look hard from the road but looks fun.

Chances of renting a bike in NY is almost zero. Unadilla could be within your time here. If interested in very early motorcycles and airplanes check out the Glenn Curtiss museum in Hammondsport NY. May want to condense your plans a bit, that's a lot of driving.

Tried to post photos of some of the motorcycles but they won't load. Same problem others have had.

I feel like the US members of this forum have assumed this person is driving between all these places and I could be wrong, but I bet OP planned to fly.

It might be easier to drive to Unadilla from NYC than it would be to fly there from NYC. I love Unadilla, but there is literally nothing else out there except for farm fields and cows lol.

The Pro Motocross schedule was released, Budds Creek is August 22nd. This year I believe they held amateur open practice on Friday so it may be possible for you to ride Friday and watch the National Saturday as part of your trip to Washington D.C. which is only 1 hour from the track.
