1. Eli Tomac isn’t the same guy this year.. Father Time is still undefeated
2. Jett looks like he is playing a video game on easy mode - he is faster literally everywhere, those drone shots really show his speed advantage over everyone
Every time Jett dumps the clutch when the gate drops we are witnessing perfection. That second moto was epic and the pass made on Cooper was mind boggling. Weather or not Jett ends up eclipsing RC in wins because there’s a long way to go, really doesn’t matter. I never thought I’d ever say this, but I believe after watching that second moto , I’m watching the Greatest MX rider I’ve ever seen. Jett is a finally tuned machine and Honda has given him everything he needs.
That's the beauty of forums I suppose. Dont agree, and tomac's hangtown ride in 15' was superior, so was chase's hangtown last year, and so was RC's lapping the field.
Add Dungey's Southwick ride, and a few others.
Memories are short. The greats from the past were just as good.18 does have technique that matches or surpasses the greatest however. imho.

Seeing Jett in a "mini panic mode" was what I was secretly waiting for. Watching him setup that pass on cooper even before the rollers started was definitely "easy mode" for him.
That's not what Flatliner is saying. He knows 18 is just as good if not better than all the greats. He is saying that his 18th to 1st isn't up there with some of the other great rides (Tomac smoking the field in 15, RC lapping the entire field at Milleville, etc.)
Agreed. Not a Jett fan really, but I do believe he is the greatest to ever ride a dirt bike. Most successful is one thing. We saw one ride where he had to come through the field and we were in awe. No doubt he has these rides in him every weekend, it’s just that he gets out front early and makes it boring.
So you don’t agree that Jetts ride was epic?
It was a fantastic ride, yes. The don't agree was to the greatest Mx rider ever.
RC went 48-0. On both a two stroke and four. That, to me speaks for itself.
Great? Yes. Epic? No.
"Jett is a finally tuned machine and Honda has given him everything he needs."
What's great too is they're eating eggs and bacon for breakfast and ice cream on race day. Aldon would never!
Mud ride is in a different category. Eli at Hangtown is the holy Grail. Roczen at Millville '16 was epic.
RC is the GOAT and, like Ryno said, probably will be until this sport dies. Setting aside all the stats, wins and titles, who would you most want to ride like? Its a tossup for me between Jett and peak RV. Jett for the beautiful perfection and RV for the ruthless aggression.
I believe Jett will end up passing RCs win record. Maybe not McGrath, though.
Even if you add the races Jett missed due to injury last year as 'losses', he still wouldnt have more losses than Ricky did in his first 2 seasons. That's insane.
Basically, if he's there, he wins. Nobody else can claim that.
You're watching an outdoor version of McGrath in the '90s, and he's certainly not average with his indoor game either.
Bacon is the KING OF MEATS, makes since that a Championship winning rider would partake of the fine meal you mention.👍
I’m a huge RC fan , from day one. I get it, that’s why I stated that I never thought I would ever say it. But I think Jett is better. Obviously not in terms resumes, but because of what I’m seeing Jett do on track this year. I’ve never seen any rider ride that fast and smooth and make it look effortless every time out. Definitely remains to be seen if he can eclipse RC’s stats, but stats don’t always tell the story of who was the best .

What’s RC4’s Nickname if Jett does end his career ahead of Ricky?
cant compare to the scoop tire era..after watching the guys motor out of the deep sand at the red bud whoops without even spinning. cmon!
I am a big stats guy, and you can use them to argue in different ways.
Total wins is one thing, win percentage is another.
Let’s play devils advocate here and say that MC got his 72 wins, and if another rider wins 71 with a 100% win rate through his career, who was the best?.
It’s a extremely hypothetical argument but win percentage is often not talked about.
is it how many wins you got, how long you were in the sport or how good you were while you were in it?. Ofc you could not claim to be the best ever if you race one race and go out with a 100% win rate but after a couple of years of racing it becomes interesting to look at it.
I don’t remember what stat RV had that was better than RC that really surprised me that they talked about in the last title 24.
Someone get Oscar Meyer on the horn! Sign this kid up!
You’re wrong. Period.
Definitely a fun debate. Years ago I saw an interview with Cleveland Browns running back Jim Brown , of course they were discussing who the greatest runniing back of all time was. As you may know Jim retired while still in his prime ,maybe towards the end of it, just play’d 9 years. At the time he retired he had the most rushing yards in history, over 12K , many thought that would never be broken .Anyway Jim seemed a little bitter that he no longer had the record, but he made an interesting point and said that stats have their place in determining who is the greatest but that the main criteria to determine who the greatest is ……. “Should be, who was the most dominant in their own era.”
I grew up in MX of course and RJ and Bailey were my heroes. Then I became huge into basketball throughout the 90s. Jett reminds me a lot of Jordan...even when he was up against "your team" you sat there waiting for the next MJ moment that had your eyes bugging out. I already want Jett to get beat just cause I want awesome close racing, but good lord that kid looks like he's putting a few warm up laps BEFORE the race. It's like he's not even trying and it's so wild to watch. And yes, that pass on Cooper even made my wife sorta shriek when he did it...
And agree about ET3 - he knows he has nothing for Jett. Sucks, but such is life. You could just tell when his bike blew that there was almost relief in there.
Yeah, somehow all those rides are forgotten, and Dunge started no only last, but almost a lap behind last place.
American GOAT?
Jett is really great...one of the best ever. But, as we all have seen, it takes one bad/different model year or change of a bike and suddenly the person looks/rides different. The Honda model Jett is running currently he really does gel with and Honda will do probably everything they can to keep it this way. Look at the McGrath and Honda BITD. Suddenly the 1997 bike was a literal hunk of sh*t and basically un-raceable.
I told my friends and family this week that Jett is TBE.
