Alright, I was at the Salt Lake Supercross and saw a guy in Q1 who was so bad I thought it had to be a joke. I went out of my way to figure out who he was and even followed him on Instagram because he was literally THAT bad.
Now, eight months later, I’m still thinking about it. I’m just curious if anyone knows anything about this dude? I can’t wrap my head around how someone at his level managed to get a pro license and can actually enter a Supercross race. I’ve tried looking up info on his past or how he could managed to qualify for a pro license, but I can’t find anything.
I’m a slow fat ass-hole hater I get it. Now legit who tf is this guy?
My genuine question is how did he get a pro license? Can anyone cite any sources?
Alright, first off, you just admitted you’re a ‘slow fat ass-hole hater,’ so let’s address that energy first. Before judging someone who’s putting it all on the line at a Supercross race, ask yourself: have you ever sat at a starting gate with the pressure of performing at that level? Do you know what it takes to even get there—mentally, physically, and financially?
There’s a story behind every rider on that track. Maybe this dude had injuries, mechanical issues, or just an off day. Maybe his journey isn’t about being the next Eli Tomac but about chasing a dream and proving something to himself. The guy's out there living it, and you’re in the stands, posting burns on social media/forums.
Getting a pro license isn’t easy—it requires earning AMA points and qualifying through legit competition. That alone makes him part of a small, elite group compared to the thousands who dream of it. If you can’t wrap your head around how he got there, maybe it’s time to consider there’s more to this sport than just winning. Respect the grind, or line up at the gate yourself.
Nick… is that you? 😉
If you’re not Jake, and he’s not Nick….then 🤔
Quit bein a dick to Nick.
I've known people that earned a pro license by having a bunch of money and going to a ton of races, eventually they would get points due to small fields and other racers DNF/ issues.
I don't know this kid but I have more respect for people trying to upgrade than people hell bent on staying in the C or B classes.
*I just looked up some of his results, he's not even the worst guy in qualifying, nowhere near as slow as you made him out to be.

They must not be too hard to get. I knew a kid my sons raced with back in the 2000's and he jumped from C to B because C was too wild and crazy. and not even a season later he did the same jump to A. I guess he went to enough races to get the needed points (low entry, dnf's, etc) but this kid could not even qualify for C class at loretta's. About a year or so later he was at the Houston Sx lining up to race. He would have been a danger to anyone out there. Luckily, practice went bad and they basically quit after than. Man at the money they spent to get there. It was 15 years ago so I hope they fixed the loophole he used to get there.
I have no problem with the kid doing what he done and at an mx race it's no big deal. There is plenty of room on an mx track to get out of the way. But to race a supercross you are a danger to anyone out there if you are that slow and inexperienced. Yeah I'm also a slow, not really fat, old guy. lol
Reminds me of that Damon Smith dude from the mid 2000s.

I hear there’s lots of fast guys that probably wouldn’t qualify for the C class at Loretta’s.
Sorry, couldn’t help myself. Carry on.
RIP Brotocross...........maybe he'll start the site back up when he gets out of club fed.
No doubt. People love to mop up in the novice class!! $2 plates from hobby lobby with a sticker (trophy)will drive you win!! Lol
Probably just building a resume to be a Pro Trainer….coming to a local track near you …
He’s asking for the story………
I liked Brotocross! Had no idea he is on vacation at ClubFed? The heck did he do?
To answer your question, here’s his AMA results:
https://results.americanmotorcyclist.com/riders/38836-nicholas-jones/results/MOTOCROSS/2024
He has nothing to be ashamed of, and frankly he’s a nice guy the one time I met him at an arenacross in Guthrie (he had a stock yz250 and was doing his darnedest to put it in the main). I think he even told me he had outdoor suspension that weekend when I talked to him.
I follow him and a lot of privateer guys if they seem like they have good character. Nothing in his posts screams “rich kid who just showed up to every pro am til he could get his card”.
Frankly, if you want to make fun of someone who should have never been awarded a pro card I fit that description to a T. Being 6’5” and thus having the confidence to hit whoops is pretty much the sole reason I ever got one back when AX would get you a card.
Not sure how he peed in your cheerios, but maybe go do something that makes you happy today.
Also: It’s been mentioned that someone speculated he had an industry friend write a letter for him. Feld quit doing that for supercross licenses over a decade ago. I know plenty of faster guys with better connections who’ve tried.
Alright, I’m hopping off my soap box and seeing if he has any merch. I think he’s racing Boise AX tonight.
I'd probably die if I tried to make it around a SX track, so props for actually getting out there and giving it a go
considering I know plenty of guys that got pro license by having an industry friend write a letter, and sending in their money. Its not that hard.
Back when I actually would attend SX live, my biggest draw was early qualification races. Seeing local pros who legit are fast AF struggle. Makes you really appreciate the game, and those at the top level. And the circus it is, the equipment and setup needed to properly do it. But checking the box as a bucket list and actually lining up demands respect, much respect. Guarantee Nick Jonesy has a deeper appreciation of the races none of us joes can fathom.
Remember being a kid at the Castaic track watching a guy on an RM125 absolutely destroy the place. Fast forward to supercross at the Coliseum the night Deegan won and the guy could barley make it around the track in qualifying.
To that end, and I’ve only seen this happen on one occasion (a rider pulled from the track)…the AMA needs to have someone on the ground at the race(s) who’s sole job is watching the practice/qualifying and literally pulling riders that are too slow and incapable (and are therefore a DANGER to themselves and others). I believe this would fall under the purview of someone like Jeremy “J-Bone” Albrecht & that makes perfect sense to me.
To the OP’s point…which isn’t written in the nicest or most diplomatic way…but, his point is valid: when someone is several seconds OFF THE PACE…in “C” practice? It’s time to start asking “WTF is going on here?”
This isn’t a new thing and it’s something that comes up at EVERY A1.
Pit Row
Worst I've ever seen was at Daytona SX one year.
This post prompted me to look it up. RC turned the fastest lap in practice at a 55.3. This guys fastest lap was a 1:46.8. 51 seconds off the pace!
I'm not looking to blow him out, so I won't mention his name, but in doing some more looking into it, 2 years prior to the Daytona race that I saw him at he raced a Loretta's Area Qualifer in the 45+ class and went 7-6. He followed that up with a 26-21-DNF at the Regional. Two years later: Daytona Supercross!
There was definitely a flaw in the system.
Why are we glossing over this??? This needs answers!
So you must have easily beat him and qualified for the night show. Oh wait, guys like you don't even race.
I know exactly who it was Yamaha 450 with retro plastics. He tried Daytona a few times. I was blown away he was even allowed on the track. He turned a 1:58.4 🤣
To this point, you know if you should be anywhere near a supercross track or not. If you are to the point where you are rolling any obstacles or doubling the triples, you are an idiot. I don't care if you have a pro license or not, you are a kook.
I am just here for the Brotocross updates
I just looked up more results and you're right! He was there more than once and the following year (from when I saw him) he was somehow even more off the pace! 😬
Y’all remember two-stroke guy?
I'm of the opinion that this is what keeps our sport "core" and makes it special. The dream is more accessible than playing in the NFL, NBA, MLB etc...
I say, let 'em try, that's why we have qualifying. If people are worried, make it progressive, if your not within 150% in the 1st practice, you're out, something like that...
This is coming from a guy that tried a handful of nationals in the late 90's and missed the fast 40 by 1 position on one occasion and by 2 on another.
I knew not to mess with Supercross, but that was my decision. I respect those that give it shot anyways.
Anyone got video of this spode?
Dude can get around an SX track in under a minute. He's goddamn fast compared to nearly any of us.
Had no idea this results page existed! Thanks! Just dove through some of my old results from nearly 20 years ago. One thing's for sure, I'm no Nick Jonesy and have no business on a supercross track!
Ronnie Ford !
Post a reply to: HELP. WHO IS NICK JONESY?
