I'm planning on taking a trip to Missouri for my spring break. I'm thinking of heading down march 24th or 25th to ride at Mid-America Mx park in Memphis, MO for a day or 2 and then headed to Huntsville for the open practice and LL qualifier the 28th, 29th, and 30th. If Mid-America doesn't have an open practice on those days i think i may just head to Merwin (xtreme park??) just because i have been there before and its is a pretty sweet track. But i am just wondering if anyone has been to any of these tracks and could give me some info on them or if you have some other tracks in Missouri that would be worth hitting up to get some practice before the area.

Thanks

The biggest problem for the end of March is usually weather. It can be warm, cold, rainy, or snowy. Or all of the above in one week.

Huntsville is really Moberly.

Merwin is still a very good track, though a bit far away from north Missouri where the LLQ is. If you're willing to drive that far, another choice is Legends MX in Halfway (near Buffalo--which also has a nice track).

The best way to keep tabs on what track will be open what days is on MO State MX's Pit Talk forum. All the tracks are linked from MO State MX as well.

I forgot to say, we've never been to Memphis, but it's supposed to be real good. Kahoka is up there and is awesome if it's open, and so is The Farm MX in Iowa.

Moberly is a great track. A genuine outdoors style track.

Here's its website: http://www.hlrmotorsports.net/hlr/

In the early season, the conditions can be pretty variable...we've done the LLQ there in March years ago where it rained all weekend, other times when it had been frozen until right before the race and there was no chance to turn the ground over and till it up. Most times though, it'll be quite damp, deep, rough and get big ruts in a March race.

2006's LLQ at Moberly:

HLR is probably one of the top 4 tracks in MO. Memphis is a sweet track but it is out in the middle of nowhere. It has big hills and is basically all natural terrain. If you are going to memphis then you need to go about 30 min east on 136 and hit up kahoka, MO if big Mike has it open for practice at that time (660-727-3301). If not Kirksville has a new track thunder ridge that is up around that area. Merwin is a good track but pretty far out of the way for you. There are some other private tracks around the columbia area that are worth hitting up. If you are interested I can try and get you in touch with some of them.

thanks for all the info guys, its very appreciated. what is the turn out usually like for a Area down there? I'm just thinking it would be nice to at least get into the regional early and not have to worry about running Millville qualifier.

On the weekend where it rained all weekend, they ran one moto and if you completed a lap you advanced to Regionals. Most everybody went home or didn't show up.

Most times there's a pretty good turnout in the popular classes (80's, 125 class, etc) and it's real competitive. Vet classes not so much.
