Powerflow here.
Is it worth the $200?
I'm in the same boat. 170-175. I was able to make sag, but the preload felt light when turning the spring by hand (I did not measure, 5mm is recommended preload). I was questioning the racetech calculator too. Their calculator has me at 5.3 rear and .47 front. The older age the selection you choose, the lower the recommended spring rates and the farther you get away from the stock balance.
Closest values I found to fit the stock setup is 175lb A rider at "standard age - 29 years old".
Also got the powerflow and it took me 20 minutes to install it so not a big deal.
Haven't riden the bike yet, waiting for some stuff so can't comment on the power difference.

There’s some interesting stuff on this thread! I think I’m gonna go pick a 24 up, I’ve got a 22 now, but with the prices on 24’s, why not update! Lol
Selling my 24 w/ w 2 hours on it. Loaded with pro circuit parts and more.
You can get the domed filter and such for cheaper. But I do like that it opens up the air box a tad more and easier filter install I feel.
Yeah I’m going down a spring rate in the shock for sure. That way can get the static sag and race sag where they need to be. Plus my shock is trying to murder me and I do not enjoy it haha.
I had a buddy put in my powerflow kit last week. After seeing the stock filter & cage from the inside of the air boot on what appeared to be a proper “seal”…. Buy the kit for engine health alone. That lip rolls way too easily
The stock one definitely is quirky but no one in this thread has had any problems yet. Keefer knows of one that sucked in dirt but he said the filter didn’t appear to be oiled or was light oiled.
When you buy a new bike, you always need to oil the filter before riding it. The oil that is on the filter from the factory is not air filter oil. It is a light oil that is applied to make the filter material last longer. It is not designed to capture dirt. Just an FYI.
Why selling?
Unfortunately my back is messed up at the moment. 2 herniated discs. Plus my wife and I are in the process of moving so the bike is just sitting. It needs nothing!!
Ah! but the thing is, the new ones as so cheap right now, I’m probably just gonna finance a new one with $1k down then pay it off when I sell my 22! But you should place an add on here & see what you can get!
Good practice to grease the filter lip lightly to prevent dirt/sand intrusion into the motor
Honestly I grease mine heavy. I probably overdue lip grease and air filter oil. I’d rather need an extra five mins cleaning during change than a blown up moto.
Rode mine yesterday first time. Felt better than on my yz450f 24. Track was super rough. Better suspension. Engine felt a bit slow compared to the yzf, had to rew it more to go fast. Kx feels heavier.
Was 1.5 sec faster on the kx.. did a little laptime battle.
Today I removed the screens in the muffler and the bike sounds and feels snappier. Took me 1 minute to remove them both with a long wall drill.
Also opened up the airbox and put a 51 sprocket on.
Pit Row
1.5 seconds is quite a lot.
im curious if after the changes if it actually makes you slower.
I want credit for my redneck protip.
I feel like if you rode my bike you would let Chad do your stuff. I absolutely love my suspension.
You will also get a gain from removing the end cap and cutting out the baffle.
Taking the end cap off the muffler and cutting off the baffles will do even more.
Pretty sure I will be just as fast or faster.. rode it in the woods today just to get a feel for the changes and it feelt like I gained a couple of ponies.. much snappier and much more meat from bottom to mid then before.
Will probably be able to lug it a bit more and be able to get going out of courners in third gear easier.
Someone got the valve stacks specs on the stock fork?
Exhaust indecision.
Typically a PC loyalist, I had a Ti6 pro on order, but canceled it and we FMF 4.1 slip on. Hopefully I’m not disappointed. I usually go hog wild on my builds, but trying to keep this one simple.
If I’m being honest, I really like the look of the stock header and FMF combo, but the washed up Vet rider in me typically over buys to compensate for lack of skill.
I’ve been riding light at home doing some heat cycles, and will do airbox mods/filter upgrade before I hit the local track
i have not installed the 4.1 yet, so let me know if I’m making a mistake not going full ti6 pro
Cheers
Awesome graphics!
Can you share why you’re glad you switched back? How much time did you have on your 23 YZ?
I have/had 24 yz. Honestly i think the power is too much on the yz, especially the way it comes on. No matter how I geared it I couldn’t pull third gear comfortably out of corners. It’s almost like the gear ratio in trans is off and from what I heard about the 25 that maybe one of the updates.
The Yz suspension is obviously second to none but I struggled with initial part of the corners with it(tip in). Once in the rut it handled like a dream.
Also with the Yz the clutch is a problem that doesn’t get talked about too much. Star is running a 6 spring clutch instead of stock setup washer spring. With the stock setup it will slip under load when traction is high. Supposedly Rekluse is releasing the Star setup sometime soon.
At the end of the day the Kaw is like an comfortable pair of shoes for me..
also for 3 weeks ago I paid $8500 otd for it which was hard to beat
I have a 24 Yz as well and kinda struggle with the power in certain conditions. Just this past weekend I found the smooth-linear map w/ traction control on high is definitely a step in the right direction when the track has good grip. The bike isn’t lacking power at all. Also running 14/52 gearing combo.
