08 already has those updates. Good out of the box.
Both need a gearing change. 13/50 I believe. A slip on muffler really brings out the top end. Thats been a complaint that they don't have top end power.
I have an 07 and really like it.

Had 1 of the 2009 done with pro circuit motor etc and my son rides the 2010 stock and reckons it is better all round smooth power.
They are a good bike dead stock.
We clocked up 100+ hours on the 2008 before we changed piston. Very Lucky and bike is still going strong.
All in all in my option after 10 years on suzukis and now on yamaha I love my yzf so much better then the rmzs and you cant beet the realabilty on the yzfs. In my 2 cent the best overall bikes stock are the yzf and kxf.

Personally, I'd be far more concerned with the MPG figures than the top-speed numbers, but that is just me....
My son rode the bejesus out of our '07. 140 hrs and never had to adjust valves, still in spec.
I did the clutch update, but never had a problem with shifting.
This was our first four-stroke, and honestly, I was scared to death it would grenade.
FMF megabomb and a little leaning out in warm weather and she screamed!
