But biden..........
But trump.......
Yeah but what about him.....
Oh yeah, well he did such and such.....
Our elections have become more and more about which candidate is less likely to make us projectile vomit when we go into the voting booth.
We argue like kindergarten aged children and make excuses for the candidate that fits some of our criteria because that is what the people pulling the strings want us to do.
Both parties have had presidents who had a majority of their party in the house and senate and yet nothing has been done about what has now become a $34 trillion debt.
Nothing has been done about immigration. A wall? Symbolic instead of doing what really needs to be done. Open borders certainly aren't the answer.
We get an immigration bill full of pork and foreign aid, and the can gets kicked down the road while all of them point fingers.
Now the aurguement is Trump sleeping with a porn star, and bill Clinton and jfk come up in the "what about game".
It is all pathetic.
I would like to think we deserve better, but sometimes I give up hope.
Our choices are a corrupt, senile, babbling creepy idiot
Or
A morally corrupt megla maniac who could easily have won reelection if he had just kept his mouth shut, and seems destined to prove it again by saying what he did about Russia attacking nato and his childish games about Nikki haley's husband.
One of them will be elected, not by winning voters over in a spirited debate, but by alienating fewer of their own voters....
Bleeeeeeck,............
Is that supposed to be “bleak”?
Isn't "bleeeeeeeeck" insinuating one vomiting?
Problem is,
Trying to talk about the disastrous present administration, and the things unraveling around us NOW, has the same handful coming in here with the tired whataboutisms concerning the last administration.
You know, the one not in power any longer.
The one not responsible for the shit show happening all around us.
But, like the MSM infusion they've become tranquilized by, that's all they have.
I remember just a few years back,
Growing energy independence, and associated price per barrel.
I remember affordable goods and services.
I remember better foriegn relations with other world leaders, and our adversaries not going full on bat shit crazy.
I remember a southern border not thrown wide open for any, and everyone, to come pouring in by the tens of thousands every week.
I remember our federal agencies unweaponized against our own citizens.
(Though we all can admit the patriot act accelerated that exponentially)
I mean if we're going to play the whataboutism game...
What is the current status of our 'energy independence'?
Hint, it's at the highest level in over 70 years. Energy independence, is a function of exporting more energy than you import, and the gap is growing.

I posted a reference to this data several days ago. Crickets. It interrupts the process of talking past one another so it's ignored.
Not picking a side, just trying to read the graph:
Looks like the change occurred around 2019 with a sharp drop into 2020, which was Covid year right? Is it possible some of the drop in imports was due to a reduction in heavy oil imports used by manufacturing during that time?
It is worth noting that the import trend seems to be increasing slightly, but the export trend seems to be increasing more.
That's part of the problem with graphs, they don't tell the whole story.
However it is food for thought, and I bet a logical and reasonable discussion could be had about it 🙂
Funny how people refuse to believe The Obama administration got us to the largest oil producer in the world and it has continued (Covid years were challenging) even through last year.
How many barrels are used in the U.S. per annum?
How many of those barrels are produced domestically?
How many of those barrels are imported?
Could we be importing less and utilizing more domestic product?
Who in the world produces the cleanest energy and should we be concerned with that fact?
Should we be buying the product from the cleanest producers?
What’s the difference in environmental impact of U.S. produced oil being used domestically versus the use of imported oil (it’s environmental impact both in transportation and often “dirtier” production)?
Now, we can have the “Net-Export” discussion all day; or, we can discuss the actual impacts & realities of Domestic v. Imported energy and it’s affect on our environment and energy dependence & our national security (strategic petroleum reserves, etc.).
Aside from all that…how about the Energy Sector Jobs that includes everything from Pipeline Construction to Workers in The Patch(es)…?
Now I mean this as a question, because I myself don't know, but was that the result of the Obama administration's policies, acts of Congress, a result of a growing global economy, something else, or a combo move of several factors?
Too funny Homer.......
You gotta feel for Smokin' Joe right now though.
Hopefully in 5 years you guys have 2 candidates worthy of voting for. I pity you and your current choices.
Remember, not all petroleum extracted in the US is “good” petroleum. Much is exported due to lower grade quality and/or lack of demand domestically. Pure petroleum independence should not be a goal, as it’s economically disadvantageous.
Now, once we pioneer fusion in a couple of hundred years…
I hear fusion is about 30 years out.
You’re probably right. Technology advances as such an incredible rate that a breakthrough could be around the corner. A primary challenge today is the massive amount of energy required to launch and sustain a fusion reaction. The net return can’t justify the CAPEX.
I’m far from an expert on this but here is my understanding. It is a combination of a lot of things. It is important to note, we became the largest producer at the end of his administration. I’d say that puts more value on his administration being behind it than if it happened in year 1 or 2 of being elected.
Below are talking points I’ve read contributed to increased oil production:
1) Obama Admin policies and leases on new well and drill sites
2) Oil prices raising enough to “profitably” extract it from our reserves
3) Technology improvements to extract shale oil quicker and cheaper
4) Obama administration influence on slowing Russian oil production and purchase on the free market.
There is not much talk of this but the Obama administration was hard on the Russian oil economy. Russia relies on oil to fund their government and military. The Obama administration’s focus on adding more US oil production plus removing sanctions on Venezuelan and Iranian oil ultimately led to lower oil cost due to additional production. I never fully believed in the Trump/Russian collusion (at least on a grand scale) but if it had been proven (on a grand scale) I always figured it was over oil. It was obvious a Clinton administration would have continued with the same economic crushing policies on Russia that the Obama administration had implemented.
The largest thing in our solar system is a giant fusion ball. I believe we will achieve cost effective energy storage (at a house/business level) and solar (from that giant fusion ball) before we solve regenerative fusion energy.
Por qué?

I used to think that too , but I’m not so sure now . It’s getting difficult to bet against Deepmind et al . Their motivation is strong . I think it’s ten years away . Sorry for the thread hijack …
Fusion is always "just 30 years away". It was 30 years away when fission entered the market, it was 30 years away when chernobyl happened, it's 30 years away today, and it'll be 30 years away 30 years from now.
Same as the ice caps melting.
That for taking the time to answer 🙂
Could you share a link that has details about the Obama Administration's policies please? I tried to find details myself but failed at googling 😁😁
I think they've had some progress in the last several years. Human flight was always right around the corner, then once it happened we went to orbit within 60 years. The build up may be slow, but hold on once it happens.
Oil production went up during the Obama administration "in spite" of Obama not "because" of Obama. They tried to squash fracking as hard as they could but the oil boom was largely on private land that they could not stop. Fracking is fairly new and they did not like that one bit. But fracking enabled them to extract from the Baken. It had nothing to do with Obama other than he was in office when the boom started.

I had a good conversation with an engineer from Tri Alpha Energy based here in Lake Forrest CA. From what he told me, you won't be waiting 30 years. It's pretty exciting what he was telling me. They are now TAE Technologies. He was telling me about a system that's about 20' X 100' that they could use to power the whole Microsoft campus (as an example). And it's not 30 years out.
They (multi-national conglomerates and corporations which have the energy sector completely cornered by monopolies and political influence; i.e., “legal” means) could come out with the most simple, efficient, and free energy source, and it would not make a lick of difference. You guys do realize it wont “save the world” from pollution or overconsumption. It will not make your life any easier or living expenses any less.
Any government, anywhere on earth is not here to help. They may very well invent new inventions, but you can be damn sure it won’t be to make your life any easier. The Powers That Be exist to squeeze you, burden you, and exploit you until you are dead. And then they will do the same to your children.

The truth about all political discussions is that they are absurd. The current system of government (which is the same everywhere on earth) is absurd because it is irrational, and you cannot rationalize the irrational. You cannot make sense of the senseless. And you will not find logic in what is illogical!
Truth is, the more we fight amongst ourselves the happier our government will be.
