Dungey was awesome. He did not surprise me. IMO Stewart has these guys covered. When he decided to wick it up with 6 laps to go he he did and closed the deal. Nobody in SX has that ability to take control of a race on demand.

As far as surprises Kdub and Langston top my list. RV was not a surprise to me. He finished where he was suppose to.

The total duds of the nite were:

Milsaps, Honda it just X ing out the days on this guys employment calender

Lawrence, Nobody has less fight in him than that guy.

Stroupe, He is the most dangerous big bike rider to come along in a while.

As I said before A1: What makes Ryan so dangerous to the rest of the field is that he expects to win over everyone. He believes he can win he believes he can beat EVERYONE. He tightened up or whatever last night and James caught him pretty quickly but let's not forget that Ryan ran James right back down again and while he didn't get it done it was close. He made James work for it and that is what he needed to do.
This was just one race, the first race of the year, and I think we all know that James is going to win a bunch more races. But to say that James automatically has everyone covered and can come on strong and just win whenever he wants to is ludicrous. Chad beat him last year RC used to beat him regularly and Ryan V beat him twice last year. James is not unbeatable and that is a good thing. I don't know about you guys but I am very excited about the rest of this year and beyond.

Let's think about this...if the rolls were reversed would Dungey have been able to run Stewart down if he was 4.5 seconds back? Nope. No one has the ability to find that half a second or second a lap when needed like Stewart, not Reed, not Villopoto, not Dungey. Dungey rode a hell of a race and his speed should not come as a suprise he works with the man that knows Stewart the best. But this is one race and if you honestly think that was all the speed Stewart had you guys are crazy. Everyone will get faster as the year goes on and that includes Reed and Villopoto. So saying this kid will take it to Stewart after one race is a little funny. We all want to see a battle and see the racing tight but Stewart will turn it up and get his wins like always. And this talk of taking it to Stewart has to stop. Taking it to some one is leading all 20 laps and taking the win. Taking it to someone for 18 laps doesn't mean shit if you don't get the W. Weimer took it to the lites class...that's taking it to someone. Dungey will be a contender but he will also have his set backs like the number 2 did last year. Let's hope everyone can stay healthy and make this interesting.

Now does anyone here think Reed can pull off what Stewart did last year?

First off not saying it's the end...but if you look at the laps you'll see that Dungey ran his 56's early on and James ran his later Dungey was faster lap after lap after lap for more of the laps than JS but when he wasn't it was by a larger margin. He also did this with Stewart breathing down his neck for 18 laps Stewart almost got caught and passed back with only having to deal with RD for 3. Maybe he planned it that way if Dungey's back tire hadn't broken loose that last corner could have been ugly- You talk like James has the upper hand, like he's got it all figured out. I think Dungey's the one on cloud nine IMO- .2tenths on average difference between your 4 second man. remeber RD pulled that 4 sec lead and then closed another 1-2 in the last three as well.

True...as Dungey made a few mistakes allowing Stewart to close in Stewart also made mistakes in the back to back whoop sections allowing Dungey to close up in the last lap. Just like A1 last year everyone was saying Reed was able to match Stewarts speed and tempo in practice and in the main before the crash. We know what then happened over the next 7 or 8 races. Stewart will find more speed like he always does and he will figure his bike issue out by round 2. Dungey won't be able to match Stewarts speed especially when the tracks get more technical. Reed will also bring his speed up when the tracks get tougher. Last nights track was not difficult or hard for any of the top 10 riders. As the series moves on I think we will see where everyone falls and where there place in the speed department lies.
This is not last year...JS had a new bike and didn't trust his team to set up the bike. Hes been not only riding that thing but racing it SX. Also RD is not CR he's different James is lucky he didn't knock them both over when he moved over when RD was hitting that rythm section better than him. Ive watched that race like three times. James seriously barely won that one!

It was a great race!

What we saw last night was not the beginning of the end...it was the beginning of a very exciting SX season for 2010.

Dungey was faster then most people thought. James was very patient. I don't know about anyone else, but I did not think Dungey would even stay with James once he was passed. He not only stayed with him, but he closed the gap and mounted very solid charge at attempting to repass James.

It's a confidence builder for Dungey, RV, Reed, Windham etc saying hey...we can run with this guy!

IMO Dungey doesn't seem the least bit intimidated by Stewart, and that should make for some great racing. Reed should be pissed and we should see him actually push it this year. and RV will only get faster.
x2!

The thing is Dungey is a rookie and will struggle at some point. What was the stat dave despain made...james has started 50 something mains and has won 37 of them. Dungey has started how many and won how many? So to say that based off of this one race that Dungey is now the man is off base. James has shown that he can pick up the pace and ride that edge that no one else is willing to time and time again. He showed he has learned patience and that is all he was missing. Dungey will do very well but he won't challenge for the championship for a year or two IMO. I think for sure Dungey has shown that he is the number two rider not Villopoto like everyone else had thought. I can't wait for the series to shake down and see how everyone is riding around round 6 or 7.

I've read not a single post, mine included, that has said Dungey is now The Man. I have, however read a lot of posts here that say that last night, Dungey showed a hell of a lot of people that times they are a-changing, and that no one stays on top forever. I've also read a lot of posts trying to say that people are claiming Dungey is not on top. They haven't. Apparently, many people on here have big trouble with their reading comprehension skills--or those skills have been blocked by emotion.

Didn't Dungey close back1+ seconds on the last lap to pull up next to JS in the whoops?? RD is willing to hang it out to get to the top. James after his heat race looked to me very confident, but after the main he knew there was another challenger, this one willling to match him. Heck of a race!! I was rooting for RV but nothing doing. KW was on it, good to see the #14 handing to some highly touted young guns.

Every year some one is suppose to take the title from james and every year it hasn't happened. Will it happen at some point yes, I am not denying that but this year isn't it. People want a good race and so do I so let's hope everyone stays healthy and we have some excitement.

Stewart has been racing supercross on big bikes since 2005.

2005 Breaks arm in crash, loses championship to GOAT who doesn't crash and break arm.
2006 Loses to GOAT straight up. Goat wins 5th Supercross championship.
2007 GOAT rides 1/2 season and retires, Stewart wins championship.
2008 Injures knee in crash, withdraws from championship.
2009 Wins championship by 4 points in last race of season. Nearly loses due to crashes.

Some people talk like Stewart is invincible. I don't see it. But that's just me--and history.

What? I think you have JS confused with RC. This is his 1st year defending the SX title and he refused to defend the MX title.Am I missing something?

I don't think he is invincible at all and he has lost only one championship he has raced entirely. Stewart will get beat this year more then once but the championship will be his, that's all that matters. And the shit about almost lost in the last round is funny man...chad got a 19 point head start and fuckin blew it not the other way around. Chad can't come back like stewart if he stays healthy. And people still question his ability and speed.

You can't be positive that no one can beat James this year. We're only one race in.

But what we did see last night was another challenger step up and not only handle the pressure of having James Stewart breathing down his back for 17 laps, but also that challenged matched James' aggression and turned it up a notch to catch James and draw close enough to even be in striking distance at the end. Something that hasn't really happened for a while.

I doubt anyone really thought Dungey would be that close after James made that pass...

Maybe in years past Reed wasn't willing to push that edge, but Dungey seems willing and able.

Maybe now Reed rides like a man with nothing to lose and hangs it out more?

We wait and see, and enjoy the show.

So if he crashes out it doesnt count?

Every rider starts with the same opportunity at the Championship. IMO it's straight up every single time that gate drops.

It seems that you and I were the only ones that saw that. I fully understand that blocking is part of racing but with that said, pulling over on another rider in a rhythm section where someone is in the air is very dangerous for both riders.

It was a good race but I don't like to see blocking taking place in a rhythm section like that.

This seems like deja vu...

It almost seems like some riders act like they automatically have the right away on the track because of who they are. I'm happy they didn't crash, because that was a sketchy situation for a moment.

Surely if a rider is the fastest man on the planet he could have passed at a safer spot on the track?

You work every angle possible to take shots a James don't you?

Give it a rest dude. Jeeez

As for the move over I'm not saying that I don't like good racing and god knows Ive tried to get around a wide bike before and props to the guys that can ride like that but for a guy with a goal of getting out of A1 better than he did last year he damn near repeated it to a tee IMO. It looked like a desperate move to protect the lead. It worked but thats how I saw it- I love good racing and thats what we all saw last night Hallelujah! Let it keep coming!

I've watched the race several times already and James moves over, the same way he did in front of RD, in the rhythm section the same way while he was behind RD. It's like the same line he used nearly the whole race.

RD himself uses the same line at least several times while he was leading JS. It's just the fasted line.

So apparently, people can't even post their moto oppinions in the moto section how huh? I'm definitely not the only person on Vital whothinks they saw a preview of the future last night.

By the way Trip, I've ridden since 1978, have raced on and off since 1983, and have raced continually since 2003. I've won 2 high point championships in the last 3 years and was second this year in 40+ B. Also qualified and raced at Loretta's in August.

Last night Ryan Dungey got the holeshot and let for 17 laps, looking flawless and not on the edge a single time in his rookie year debut on a 450. Stewart looked like he was about to die at least 3 times getting sideways in the whoop sections just to keep Dungey from gapping him any more. And Dungey is no 27 year old just winding down his career.

Looks like even the IDEA Dungey could be the guy who could beat Stewart really touched a nerve with those who buy all the "fastest man on the planet" nonsense. Did you really think no one would ever come along to beat him? Why? That's the way it works. We've seen it over and over. Just like in 2001. Remember?

No, thats not it, think about last year when Josh Grant won the first race, how good did he do the rest of the season? RV didnt win anything until the last few races when he beat stewart after he crashed and when JS backed it down at Las Vegas to win the championship. Then everyone proclaimed him the person to take him down. Did you not listen to RC last night? Even he was wondering what happend to RV and why he wasnt putting in the showing of his last race.

One thing we ALL know, James will be fast at EVERY SINGLE RACE. What we don't know, whether Dungey will do this every single race.

Maybe we are splitting hairs here but are you trying to say that JS didn't know RD was passing him on the right when he blatantly blocked his momentum? To each their own-but then again maybe he couldn't hear the RMZ450 over the cheering of the crowd-

where Boby M and his clips when you need him..lol

reminds me of college football, one team has a bad day, and the team that beats them, they are all of a sudden proclaimed the best in the country only to get beat repeatedly down the strectch to finish at the bottom of their conference, hey, everyone has a good day, James just seems to have them every race he doesnt crash in.
