YZ450FX is up on Yamaha’s website since yesterday but not a peep from the media. Press release not drop yet?

Looks like it gets the new frame and engine, keeps the wide-ratio 5 speed, loses 5 lbs and, interestingly, has the suspension lowered 10mm from the mx bike.

If they came out with an all-new 300cc EFI 2 stroke, this place would explode.  A 450cc woods bike?  Not so much.

The wide ratios, is it lower 1st gear and taller 5th compared to the Mxer?

Yes. The FX gets the same transmission as the WR. Lower 1st, taller 5th, and mostly different ratios in between.

It's Yamaha's most changed bike for 2024, yet it's flown pretty much under the radar.

A 108kg electric start Jap 450 offroad bike is a first.  Esp if they've given it a big boost in rideability.

Sadly though I think the days of 450's being used for enduro are long gone.  I wish they'd focus more on the 250 or even a 300.

I’ll probably buy this bike…but if they’d make a 350, I’d DEFINITELY buy one.

I loved my 19 450FX, and my 21 450FX…and I’m sure the 24 will be just as great or better.  But I’d love a jap 350!!!

I believe the Japanese manufacturers have gentleman’s agreement to not make one for fear of cannibalizing 450 sales.

Man I’m with you. Rode the heck out of my ‘17 450FX and loved it. Was a great desert bike. I’m curious to see how the new chassis performs.

They fear cannibalizing their own sales if they offered a 350 while disregarding all of the sales that they've lost to Austria because of it.

I have the same question on the new chassis…as a desert guy, I’ve loved how stable and planted these bikes have always been, so I’m curious if they’ve lost some of that with the chassis changes?

I’d buy this over an Austrian bike for desert riding and GPs, the transmission is the biggest reason. A stabilizer for sure and maybe suspension work would probably do the trick..

Excited to get this thing and give those Euro bike boys down in Baja a run for their money. Looks like such a fun bike to ride 🤘🏽

There’s talk of switching to the longer ‘17 swingarm in the ‘23 YZ450 thread. Wonder if that would be helpful for us desert guys?

Be sure to report back if you pick one up. I’m strongly considering it too.

On my 19 I just run a 116 link chain and the adjusters back almost 3/4 of an inch vs stock, made a huge difference in stability on sand whoops and I don't really feel a difference in the turns.

My only issue with the new 450fx is it doesn't come in the 50th anniversary colors.

To help the desert guys, I have the new 23 and built it for the desert. Yes, the cassis is not as stable as the 22. Stabilizer helps but honestly fork height, sag and suspension make more of a difference on this chassis. As far as the longer swing arm from a 2017 wont make any difference unless you run the axle farther back then the stock swingarm. I have tried every possible gearing for the desert and none of them go farther back the the stock swingarm. Also I am running a loner chain. Currently I run 14/48 or 14/47. The 14/47 is pretty much all the way back. You would only need the longer swingarm if you went to a 14/46 which imo is too tall unless your racing something like Vegas to Reno. I ride socal deserts, fast pace stuff and my favorite gearing is 14/48. Only on the fasted roads am I looking for more. Its a compromise. The FX though with a taller 5th gear than my F could change things some but not sure how much yet. The mapping app allows ecu mapping for the desert too. I added an 18 rear wheel, gearing, IMS tank, GPR pro kit stabilizer, AHM suspension, engine mounts and other minor stuff. Bike is amazingly fast and all around a great off road bike, The only issue is a minor hunt and peck from the front at high speeds. Still working on that.

Thanks for that feedback!  Much appreciated.

I've had the 18 450 fx and it's for sure the best 450 bike you can get even in the woods, so easy to ride, lot of low end but no arm stretching like a yz that is impossible to have fun with, so I cannot imagine how this one will be good

A friend of mine is looking to get this as well. He's letting go his '21 FC350 and Wrangler TJ after installing the shocks and jeep wheels this week.

My secret weapon for high speed stability has been the Goldentyre Fatty front. Slows down the steering and really helps minimize deflection over hidden rocks. Wondering if that’s all it would take to calm the front end on this new bike.
