With mud my bike also weighs more than published
Btw Bryan those scales you used are probably not super accurate I test them at work and even medical grade scales that cost £200 can read 0.2kg out at 100, bathroom scales are going to be less accurate
The comparison with the alta is valid for obvious reasons
Okay - 268 by your own weight measurement of 263. That is all...bike looks cool as an addition to the stable otherwise.
I thought you weighed it at 263? Plus 5 is 268….then put any tire but those super light pirelli’s that came on it, and it’s over 270…
it can still be a great bike and super heavy…
You guys just can't help yourselves. Pathetic.
The Shop
I think everybody's all cool with the competition and electric being better if it actually is but the fact that you can't even buy another tube for your bike or even get another bike apparently the production line is shut down after they produced yours doesn't make any sense unless I'm wrong no other bikes have been delivered a manufacturing facility doesn't work this way 🤷♂️
Stark Power Tubes now available for purchase on Starks Accessory page.
How should this be taken? Perhaps someone else will order tubes and see if they are available
Bryan, do these tubes stretch like a normal rubber tube?
From what i've seen so far, they don't seem to stretch nearly as much as butyl. When fully deflated they seem to be the same shape/size as when inflated with a 4psi (max they recommend unmounted). Under 15-30psi mounted, they likely stretch/expand a little bit.
I had the same curiousity as you but i didn't want to overinflate the tubes unmounted to experiment as, at the time, replacements weren't available. And, frankly, at ~45$ each, I still don't think i will want to experiment now that they are available for purchase.
Right on, thanks. It will be interesting to see if that has any effect on tire wear. If the tube doesn’t expand enough to fill the volume of the tire carcass it may effect it? I dunno. Is the new tire you put on the rear holding up better?
Based on the material...do you think they'd be less/more resistant to pinch flats?
On pretty much any Varg post I make I can refresh the page and see a downvote almost instantly sometimes. And when I post on other stuff it seems to not be as downvote heavy. It's crazy that somebody that dislikes something so much is following something so closely to downvote so quickly. I know I can write some long stuff that people will down vote for its length. But even shorter posts seem to get super fast down votes when they are positive or defending Stark.
A friend of mine and I used to do a weekly show on Facebook live that covered NESC and some national stuff. We had Jimmy Decotis on a couple times, Paul buckley , Ian Trettel and a bunch of New England pros. The show we did that got the MOST interaction from viewers was when we did one on the Alta. I had the PRO electric side to argue and my buddy was arguing the other side. Then he rode one that weekend and on our next show he took back a lot of what he said he thought was going to be negative. The engagement analytics were insanely off the charts compared to any of the shows we did . We had a small audience, I wanna say 14k views on a show was a good one. And nothing came close to getting people worked up like talking about electric MX. That was when Alta had just come out with the higher performance version. Years ago. He got a different job and married and stopped having time to do the show. Its just crazy how intense people get about electric still.
It would make sense to only allow Varg owners to purchase parts if there are not a lot of extras available. Like require a confirmation of a pre order and ship the spare parts with the bike when it ships. And then Vin number to login to be able to process an order that would ship out right away. I bet they could sell a lot of tubes if they wanted to. But who knows what the margins are on the tubes.
Not offering spares yet might not mean much really. Many ways to read into the lack of availability. I don't think that Yamaha was selling '23 YZ450 parts before the bikes were available.
I was going to try and buy one and then I saw this (looks like you can buy them, but you may not get one for who knows how long):
The buy now button is greyed until you enter your payment info.
It wasn't that...it was the "Availability on spare parts will be limited during spring 2023, we aim to send you your order/s as soon as possible and will update you accordingly." That made me stop.
When you do expect to have yours delivered? Have they updated you yet?
Actually, I went ahead and ordered some…genuinely interested in them, also curious to see how long it takes to get them…delivery date says “n/a”. So we shall see.
I must suck, I could not tell one way or the other if I had a heavy tube or a light one. I am not one that is going to ride your bike and be like man you have a heavy tube..
Pit Row
I was hoping they would sell these separately. Ive spent more money to save less weight in less important places.
I ordered mine separately. $110 front and rear plus shipping just for the tubes.
Stark will be offering red,1 kg urethane knobbies for $600.
'Pay now and we'll figure them out by a certain future date'.
If I want less weight off my setup I'll quit drinking beer and eat less carbs.
I love being able to trust a HD tube.
With that being said I dig the stark coverage so far man! Cool to finally see one more in depth!
That’s what I’m saying. I understand rotational mass on a bicycle, and run lightweight carbon wheels on three of them, but I’ll stick with normal tubes on the mx’er. I’m a nobody with a 450.
My order still says N/A delivery.
3lb lighter? it’s been a while I guess, please remind me, how much does a typical tube weigh??
Just curious did they take your money for the tubes and then say delivery was not available or do they charge you at time of delivery? Would really like to try some of these saving that much rotational weight would be amazing for that price!
Watch the video in the OP
I have weighed a few tubes. Stock tc125 tubes: Pirelli front 485g (about 1 lb) and rear was 589g (1.3lb). Irc heavy front tube 873g. Heavy rear 110/100/18 tube ~1500g. So saving 3 lbs over stock ktm tubes isn’t possible.
1 lb per tire is pretty noticeable on a 125. It isn’t as noticeable on a 250f probably because there is so much more engine inertia.
Saw that guys are able to buy these tubes now so went looking at the stark website to get mine when I noticed they sell pirelli mx32s for cheap as shit...
Yeah, but wait til you see shipping....
