Who are some of the youngest 450 mx race winners?

Jett just got his 1st at 19 and 9 months

I believe James 1st was 20 and 5months

Rc would have been around 20 and 7 months?

Who else won a mx as a teenager?

Sébastien Tortelli won his first 250/450 MXGP in 1997. He would've been 19 something.

Very nice list. So he is the 3rd youngest (edit: in the US). That is also very impressive considering the 250 is now a real pro class too where the riders tend to stay a bit longer. I really wonder where he will stacks up in term of wins and championships in 10 or 15 years, for sure he has a bright future.

Roczen also just turned 20 one month before he went 1-1 at Hangtown in 2014 I think

There could be more guys. Those are just the ones that came to mind.

Marty Tripes? He won Saddleback's 500 class when he was 16, just turned 17 in 1972 on a CZ. Earlier in the year he won a SX as well. Pretty certain Marty Smith won a 500 race when he was around 18 as well. I am certain there are more teenage winners from the 1970s, for whatever reason up until recently, if you were a teenager you were not considered a child but a young adult.

Seems like I remember Tony Distefano winning a race at 16. I can't find records from that time, though. He won the 250 outdoor championship in 75, when he was 18.

Another reason RJ is arguably the second greatest racer of all time. He was racing against a superior Honda at 17 and his bike broke multiple times keeping him from winning a 250/450 MX title at 18 years old.

It seems as time has moved on, young guys winning (or even competing) in the premier class has become less common.

He won his first 250 MX National at 18 years, 3 months, and 26 days.

My first Pro race: “I raced the 1971 Unadilla Trans-AMA at age 14. I raced under the name Carl Dockery because you had to be 18 back then to get a license. I didn’t do very well. The next year, I got a phony driver’s license and got my own AMA Pro license. I started winning races, but someone turned me in for being 15. The AMA fined me $50 and sent me home. To me, $50 was a lot of money. The next year, the age was lowered to 16.”

I want to see a birth certificate, Jett looks much older than 19😂  I remember RC JS RV at that age winning and they all had these baby faces, maybe it was because they were all short! 😂

The Dogger wins this riddle I think. Saddleback April 1, 1984 when he was 17 years, 3 months

https://vault.racerxonline.com/1984-04-01/250mx/saddleback-park

At 13th, I was the top true privateer that day.  The first guy that paid for his own gas, tires and entry.  The 12 guys in front of me can’t say the same.
I did a Pro-Am race or two, leading up to that day, and then a qualifier the morning of, which I think I finished fourth in.
I was on a YZ 250 with an FMF pipe, Race Tech suspension and Steve Dobernic ported motor.  By April, my bike was pretty well clapped out.
I was my own mechanic with nobody giving me pit signs…there was no strategy other then go as fast and hard as I could, for as long as I could.
I was 19 y/o.  That was it for me, one and done, but it’s kind of cool that I’m still in the “vault” after all these years.

Amazing! Well done Sir Motoxdoc.

Thank you Floater! It’s not very much to brag about, but some people try really really hard and never even get a point; so I’m kinda proud of that day.

Shit 13th OA @ your 1st Outdoor Nat. top privateer and no one calls you to offer a ride to the next race. Could you imagine posting up at Pala with your clapped out bike in the back of your Toyota minitruck with a tarp, a beach chair, and a cooler and going 13th OA.  I didn’t think anyone on Vital ever rode. Top privateer at the last Saddleback National. It is cool to be a has been than a never was.

So, Jett's exceptional, just not Supercalifragilisticexpialidociously exceptional.

I didn't win my first 450 national until I was 32.

I mean, it was in Panama but it was still a national. ☺

I just find it hilarious that Jett is now tied with Cooper Webb in 450MX overalls. 🤯🤯
