This is being pushed as the bill to ban TikTok. It goes so much further. Some are calling this the internets patriot act on steroids. Look into it if you are not familiar.
Of course if you aren't doing anything wrong what's the big deal. ![]()

The Patriot Act was a misnomer, as it wasn’t very patriotic. They used the “War on Terrorism” as an excuse to an enact legislation that was in fact a war against the American people.
You know as well as I do, that government can't let a good crisis or tragedy go to waste...9/11 was a great excuse for government to expand...climate change, is another great excuse for government to expand.
I'm all for TikTok getting banned. F China. Hopefully some American Tech Nerd comes up with the replacement and makes billions instead.
However, I'd be curious to hear the underlying shit in this Bill that is going to take more of our freedoms.
Anybody got a Reader's Digest version?
Super high level here.
This would give the government the ability to:
1. Do whatever the hell it wants with your electronic network connected devices. Including things like Computers, phones, security systems, Ring doorbell, refrigerators, HVAC systems, Network devices, quantum computers etc...
2. Fine up to 1 million dollars and jail time up to 20 years if you try to block access. For instance, using a VPN
All with no accountability as the bill would exempt this BS from the Freedom of Information Act

I am all for banning TikTok being banned as well. I can't believe we allow Chinese spyware on our devices.
Why I quit using it and encourage everyone else to quit using it. If Hitler had a fun app, everybody would be using it today, without blinking an eye.
For someone that doesn’t have TikTok, what’s different about it from every other social media - in regards to why it should be banned, not in regards to function
Nothing. A bunch of people with no talent. I’m not a fan of the format at all.
The biggest difference IMO is that it is a Chinese company and requires almost full access permissions to your device:
1.Access the camera (and take pictures/video), the microphone (and record sound), the device’s WIFI connection, and the full contact list on the device
2.Determine if the internet is available and access it
3.Keep the device turned on and automatically start itself when the device restarts
4.Secure detailed information on the user’s location using GPS and other apps that are running
5.Read and write to the device’s storage, install/remove shortcuts, access the flashlight (turn it off and on), request additional installation packages
It is essentially Chinese spyware.
EDIT: This is what TikTok says about US data:
“We store all TikTok US user data in the United States, with backup redundancy in Singapore. Our data centers are located entirely outside of China, and none of our data is subject to Chinese law.”
If you believe for a second the Chinese government can't get access to this data I have some ocean front property I would like to sell you
The end goal is to wipe their ass with our constitution.
CCP is using it to experiment with behaviour manipulation .
I remember s guy who used to talk about banning TikTok, but it was frowned upon at the time.
TikTok, Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram is nothing more then the modern day version of Marlboro, Winston, Camel and Newport.
They are probably more unhealthy. They are marketed to children.
They are the modern day version of cigarettes.
TikTok is much worse , if the others are cigarettes , it is meth .
I want “censorship” regulated/disallowed and the 1st Amendment enforced by the FCC…on the internet,
Yup! FaceCrook, Twitter, IG…WHATEVER…they don’t get to regulate “The Narrative”.
Yes, this is me…Manny…calling out for “regulation” as required to ENFORCE THE CONSTITUTION AND IT’S ORIGINAL INTENT.
This is where someone will go on a rant about “the rights of private companies” or that it’s a “private forum”…so is/was AT&T…and who regulates them? When Private Entities have control…too much control and indeed can steer Public Speech & or Discourse?
Well…you either get it or you don’t.
Manny
probably the single best description of TikTok i've seen. 100% behavior manipulation.
it's amazing what the current generation is willing to do to get their like button smashed.

At the moment is has an algorithm that the other social media's have failed to recreate with their short/medium length video swiping features. It's almost eerie how good it is at finding things that you'll like. I generally hit the "not interested" tab on anything political, so most of my clips are either dogs being goofballs, children falling over, mobility training, nerd shit like astrophysics (which is funny bc it's all over my head), and self-sufficient farming/permaculture/mycology stuff. The algorithm is a little freaky though - the mobility videos that I watched started feeding me stuff on a weird form of sacroiliac strain. Went to the doc and was diagnosed with it and recently started PT on it.
I will say though, it does at least attempt to feed you political stuff. The recent Iran Protests, the big spill, France's Protests, etc... It definitely shows upheaval but (shocker) doesn't really point the lens at itself by default. However, there was a really weird few days where there were a lot of videos on the "June 4th Incident" ie Tiananmen Square where they were talking about how they need to pressure Xi Jingping to acknowledge and make amends for it. I liked that video (if China invades I'm sure my interrogators will bring that up lol) and it has occasionally fed me some really nuanced political commentary from talking heads within the country, but I notice I need to feed the algorithm a lot to get that stuff.

There was a minute there where I was actually trying to get more followers, I was just trying to post moto things, and thought it was cool to watch the followers add up. It was probably just for the little serotonin boost when you get a follower or a lot of likes on something. But then I realized it's just a waste of time, I probably had this realization whenever I started to see that lengths that people would go to, just to get followers. Now I basically just share memes on my story, or just funny shit that I find. Anyway, if you want more content like this follow me on Instagram @ vanillaice782
Our trusted leaders will always shove unrelated bull shit into stuff they are trying to get passed.
I have a cdl and can't get moving violations reduced down from what the original charge is because of bs that was inserted into the homeland security legislation.
Isn't it the inflation reduction act that passed recently that will require all new cars in a couple years to have built in breathalyzer?
Yeah, that will help make cars more affordable
I can’t believe so many here are in favor of the government expanding their power and banning a social media network. Insanity.
I recently posted a 2 and a half minute youtube video of me playing my guitar . Nothing special just improvising over a backing track . The only view I've gotten so far is me watching my own video . I have since posted on tik tok . Just 15 seconds of banging out a few power chords . 812 views 47 likes and a few followers thus far lol . Not great but something at least . I haven't posted since but I may try to use it to draw attention to my youtube channel if I decide to make more content . I agree with Tdeath . I can't believe anyone would be in favor of censoring legal content on the internet .
It's banned on government issued devices up here in Canada. I suppose that makes sense.
I miss him so much bro
I think you mean Mark Warner-- former telecom executive.
Speaking of unrelated things. This passed in our infrastructure bill a few years ago.
Post a reply to: TikTok ban. Have you heard of the new proposed bill s.686(Restrict Act)? It's frightening.
