PulpMX has started the Silly Season early

Possible retirees

If Tomac bags both the SX snd Outdoors titles he may opt to retire whilst on top. That would be the perfect way to end a Legendary career.

Roczen appears to be mentally fatigued with all the grind and hassle he has endured over the past 5 years. He either retires or finds a new home with another team for a last effort in 2023.

Brayton has had a very respectable career and will say goodbye. Marv may be a good fit.

Marv appears to be ready to walk away. Another decent factory deal so late in his career seems unlikely. MCR SX deal? Maybe a deal with Triump or Beta working on bike development.

Wilson will most likely be done at the end of this year.

(Here's hoping that the above riders stick around for at least another year)

If the above 5 riders do retire then that leaves 4 factory seats and a MCR SX only deal on the table.

We know Forkner, Graig, Nichols and JMart are moving up and will contribute to one of the greatest silly sessons in recent years. Its only February but it sure looks like 2023 is shaping up to be a good one.

What contract? I don't think Kawi every guaranteed him a 450 ride, especially not without a few 250 championships. Is there something in his PC contract that forces Monster Kawi to open a spot for him?

Either way though, with JA doing so well, it puts less pressure on them to keep AC as their championship hopeful and gives them some negotiating leverage, in which case they would be able to pick who they think is the better bet. Between AC and AF, I bet they would rather keep AC unless he isn't happy.

Pretty similar to what I said in another post. I could see craig going to HRC as well, especially since he's filled in for them before, but I think both he and AC would be looking for at least 2 years and I think HRC will be looking to have a spot open for one of the Lawrence brothers on a 450 in 2024, which means HRC takes (at most) either Craig or AC.

AC needs to cut ties with Kawasaki. Nothing against them or the bike but he needs a change, he has been with them his whole life and sometimes you need a proper change of scenery.

Ferrandis, Tomac, and Webb would be an expensive team. I doubt that happens.

Does KTM go all Euro with Ken, Dylan and Marvin SX only?

For outdoors I have to give the favorite title to DF. Eli is on a new bike and DF was amazing outdoors in 2021 and is on the same bike.

I hope so. I'd like to see a more restrained 2015 ET win the outdoor title. DF was really good last year though so should be good. Back to topic, I'd think ET would race another year if he is winning and having fun.

Out of the 5 that said they are going 450 next year, (Craig, Nichols, Forkner, J Mart, Cooper) I'd bet at least 3 don't.

I just wanted to point out that it’s been mentioned multiple times that Justin Cooper will most likely stay in the 250s for another season and they have already reached out to the AMA. And why does everyone assume Honda wants to move Jett up so quickly? He’s still really young and they would probably like to see a title defense if he wins the east coast SX championship. It’s going to be interesting to see who goes where for sure.

2 year deal for Anderson.

Forkner was set to move up earlier, but injuries prevented that from happening. He's in his last year of contract and I don't think the Kawi 450 ride is guaranteed at this point.
I haven't read all the preceding posts...so pardon me if all my thoughts have been "thought" already...

Kawasaki has to be concerned with Forkner's being so accident prone...because they already have that (arguably) in AC.

I don't see Kawi automatically plugging him in for 2023...and I don't see any other top OEM team being overly anxious about signing him. I also don't think they'll hang onto AC9. He hasn't delivered.

I think Roczen will extend his HRC contract...on a single year basis, and I can see him retiring after 2023.

Webb to Yamaha? Maybe. I don't think he's happy with KTM, and they won't fight to keep him. Can you imagine a Yamaha factory team with Tomac/Webb/Ferrandis? Talk about a powerhouse team!

If Webb jumps ship at KTM, can anybody see Ferrandis to KTM...especially since Musquin is rumored to retire after 2022 season? Of course, if DF14 does well outdoors this year...or even wins again, Yamaha might be throwing down heavily to keep him.

Will Christian Craig move up to the 450's in 2023?

I’ll bet Craig really wants that Honda 450 ride

For Honda to re-sign Kenny they’re gonna want to slash his salary considerably.
Ken being the proud man he is won’t stand for such a pay cut. He’ll be off.

Craig would be a good fit on that CRF for two years, then Jett will be ready for it.

Agree. Even if Jett manages to win the 250E SX title, I would fully expect him to defend the title in 2023. The earliest I would expect him in the 450 class would be 2024. Nothing is guaranteed though. All you have to do is look at Forkner. I think everyone expected him to enter the 250 class, win big, and move up within 2-3 yrs.

Craig or Ferrandis to HRC would be a move. Webb didn’t do well on the Yamaha, he can’t keep running away from bikes he can’t set up. If he goes back to Yamaha it would be for big $ and Ferrandis or ET would have to be gone. I would be surprised.
Interesting silly season.

I’m curious why nobody seems to think that GasGas will not add another 450 rider ? One of the 250 guys that are moving up would be a good fit for that team imo .

Don't see it teaming up with Eli if Eli opts in as you say...

Dylan swaps with him and goes to KTM

First I hear about this rumor. They wanted him at the end of '20 at a 50% discount. Heard there was interest from someone else though

Reagan and Star want Cooper back I've heard, and Webb wants to go back...

Once again, Bobby doesn't own the 450 team.

Word is Eli Tomac already opted into his option for 2023 with Star.

I also heard that Eli & Ken might actually retire at the end of the season... I doubt Ken is willing to race for less than 1/3 of his '22 contract... He's allegedly making $3Mil/year from Honda...

-I don't see AC leaving or Kawi getting anyone else to replace him. Kawi is full
-Potentially a spot at Honda if Ken retires or doesn't agree to a 6 figure contract. Remember, they're gonna need room for Jett in '24 or can he move in '23 after a potential sweep (SX & MX)
-Everyone might be up at KTM. Marvin will most likely retire unless he enjoys his SX only deal and find another one? Potentially 2 spots. Doubt they'll fill 3 spots in '23
-Dylan is up at Yamaha and Eli has a rider option. I'm sure they'd like to keep both but the cards are in the riders hands at the moment. I have a hard time seeing a Eli/Coop team. I'd think Eli might have a say about his teammate if he races in '23...
-I don't see GasGas filling a 2nd 450 guy neither.
-Husky got Mookie for another year. The Husky GP team lost Rockstar. If the US team loses it too, I don't see them spending 7 figures on a high profile 450 guy but more a couple 100ks on a rookie who will be able to make extra dough with personal deals (gear)
-Bunch of 250 guys are moving up Forkner, Craig, Nichols, Cooper, JMart etc... who will be way cheaper options as "2nd" riders vs some veterans of the class with big actual deals. And at the end of the day, budgets & saving money for American distributors of Japanese motorcycles are a factor

Well I don't think he is a generational(stew, RC, MC) type. Not to say he wont' win his fair share of titles.

It comes down to whether or not Kenny retires (I think he calls it a career after SX) and if Kawi and AC re-up. If both those spots are open, things get chaotic.

HRC
CS23 and CC28 (he was really good in MX and Jett stays down another year)

Kawi
JA21 and CW2 (not sure they have the $ especially if JA wins SX title)

Star
ET3 and AC9

KTM
AP7 and DF14

Husky
MS27 and MM25 (if he retires, maybe one of the 250 guys)

GasGas
JB51 and ? (do they add another? If so, MM25 or a 250 guy)

Cant see KR going back to KTM he was pretty vocal when he left them.
DF been Kawasaki rider until Procircuit missed to him when he came to US and let him sign Yamaha.

I think Roczen choices are pretty thin.. or other guys needs to start making moves.

I can’t see Roczen split up with Red Bull, he is a Red Bull athlete since his 85cc days. That leaves only KTM and GasGas as Factory options.

I can’t see him teaming up with Webb, with the history they have. Or Webb needs to make a move to. GasGas a bit the same with Barcia being there as #1.

I can’t see Webb and KTM parting ways that easy, they got allot of succes the last 3 years and they will have that bike figured out before the season is over.

Ah the fun speculation circus. Always entertaining and sometimes it makes you cringe what some people are thinking with the musical chairs. Either way, I think all fans enjoyed the shakeup with seats this year between Eli and Jason. Next year will be even more interesting on that front.
