I believe that would be legal. Without looking up the rule, from what I remember it just prohibits sticking them on the outer shell of the helmet.

EDIT: Looks like I was wrong. The rule is as follows:

All helmets must be intact and no modification may be made to their construction that alters the helmet from the condition it was tested and approved. The helmet is made to provide protection and is not a platform to attach foreign objects. For example, cameras or other accessories are NOT permitted to be attached to the rider’s helmet.

That would make sense since as I understand it the safety issue is to do with how the helmet slides on impact. Under the visor wouldn't affect that. I'm pretty happy with that too because I had a moderately successful YouTube channel back in the day and after experimenting with every mounting position under the sun I settled on under the visor as being the best by far. It always frustrated me watching the comparably shitty angles most riders post.

The way I read it, you can’t put it anywhere on your helmet.

The NGPC posted last week that because they are AMA sanctioned, there are no helmet mounted gopros allowed. The helmet must remain the way it was tested from the manufacturer.

I’m going to guess it’s still illegal under the visor.

If a helmet company can make a helmet that is designed to have a GoPro slotted into the mouth piece or similar for example.. they’re going to sell some units.

It basically a chin mount that you can buy. It's not an actual slot in the mouthpiece itself.

more rotation on the neck if this chin piece get caught on anything.
strongly recommend NOT to use this.

+1. Increase of rotational leverage (torque).

We got my son a GoPro for Christmas before I knew about the helmet rule. I searched for different mounts and found one called Chesty. The straps go around the chest and it has two shoulder straps keeping the GoPro very secure. He wore it yesterday for the mid-south xc race and the view was actually very good. He wears a neck brace and the camera sits just below the brace.

Don't know the details, but I bet it doesn't come in the new helmet box. No way i can see how that thing passes rotational tests on the original helmet.

It's a pisser rule.... I like seeing the riders view during the race. Sad

I use a Chesty sometimes ....the only drawback is that the view is stuck straight ahead.

AMA: “Helmet cameras are extremely dangerous to yourself and must be banned, we must make this decision for you”

Also AMA: “Those razor sharp titanium foot pegs are bad ass bro!!!”

That's what I'm thinking. This would have to be the worse mounting spot.
I might start mounting mine to my chest guard I guess. I don't race but I got to look I like do you know lmao

If only Klim would have thought to make that mount where it would break away under impact, like a visor, they could have also attached a small lanyard to keep from losing the camera under impact.Huh

So, if I'm reading the rule correctly, riders can no longer use the foam or other extensions they strap on visors for mudders then either?
