He definitely left a mark, but it was also sort of a Rorschach test. Different people interpret that mark in vastly different ways. Smile

J Law stats just so we can see how awesome he was. Right out of the records books...

Jason Lawrence………0 Championships and 0 wins out of 57 Races 0.0%, with 6 Podiums 10.53%, 13 Top Fives 22.81%, 21 Top Tens 36.84%

His stats do go up if you include regional races, but most record stats never list them so I didn't either.

So a 250 west coast championship is just a regional championship for you ?

People liked him because of his riding style and/or his personality, not his stats. The stats people had dunge.

The only difference between Jason Lawrence and most of your 80’s, iconic, role model riders was J-Laws wild actions came in the time of social media. Wrecked rental cars, 5 am bails out of jail and hungover races were nothing new. Social media was the difference, and I for one, enjoyed every damn second of him racing. Good, bad or indifferent. I don’t tout him as a role model for my children, but the sport was fun to watch with him in it. Especially Budds Creek 2007.

Yes and in your own statement you refer to it as the west coast, which is regional.

His natural talent is a thing of beauty, wished he could have made more of it. Always enjoyed watching him work his craft.

Jlaw certainly added some spice for a couple of years and was among the most naturally gifted riders I've seen. Unfortunately, 2008 Lites W SX was the pinnacle of his career. He was a non factor in that years east west shootout (Dungey tracked down Villapoto and made a last lap pass for the win.) Jlaw was never a factor indoors or out after that and drama would catch up with him via multiple racing suspensions and some time behind bars off the track.

As much as some folks like to say he was a victim of social media and the internet etc... I think his career meltdown was self inflicted as he had many opportunities to take stock and rein it in.

Bummer, he really was one of my favorite riders to watch on track during that time.

Enjoyed seeing the IG of him btw.

People who compare him to past riders either know nothing about him, or the riders of the past.

My favorite JLaw moment was when Ryan Dungey called him out in a press conference and called him an idiot.

LMAO. I guess if that’s all that matters to you, cool.

I don’t care how fast a guy is on a motorcycle, if he has no character, I don’t have time for him.

It was just a question, I don't care one way or the other about J-Law.

I apologize for my harsh response then.

I don’t think anyone has ever started an UpTiTe fan page.

I just wonder if J-Law could have functioned without all the partying and drama, part of the reason He was successful was His I don't give a shit attitude, had He started caring He might not of been as good.

I’m pretty sure he took ecstasy either on the line or just before lining up for the shootout. It was in another thread about JLaw a few months back.

His brother has been making comments on the pictures so I am thinking it is someone close to them.

I understand that much, but if your opinion is that people just don't care any longer, and that you don't understand why he is still talked about. It seems strange for you to click open the thread and contribute to it so that he is still talked about.

My opinion is that he is a dude who, like most of us, just likes riding dirt bikes because it's fun. He has that fundamental factor that he shares with all of us.

Was Ryno working with JLAW in 08? Anyone know if Jason is doing ok in life now days?

Funny the same people that love guys like Lechien hate on JLaw 🙄
Jason was just a modern day version of your Favourite 90s riders..
Not even close. Lechien went to Des Nations, raced the big boy classes including 500's and won often. He was also just inducted in the hall...
Not even close. Lechien went to Des Nations, raced the big boy classes including 500's and won often. He was also just inducted in the hall of fame and Lawrence will never see that. Yes, he liked to party and so did JLaw, but the similarities end there. J Law wasted his talents almost as much as the Hill brothers and I guarantee he wished he would have done it differently.
I don’t think the hill brothers wasted talent at all. J law for sure.......Austin stroupe probably more, and likely a shitload of others that were never heard of that are a bigger “waste”
