Has anyone ever had any luck getting an oem to fix/replace an engine? I have 2.4 hrs on a brand new 2016 kx250f and its locked up. I havent opened up the motor yet since im going to try and get either the dealer or Kawasaki usa to cover the repair but im pretty sure it dropped a valve. Anyways its had 2 oil changes w/ filters, 3 air filter cleanings, properly heat cycled and broken in, ect.. Has anyone had an issue like this from Kawasaki? Have they covered the repairs? Any advice appreciated.

My friend had his(2013) Kawi 450 lock up on a jump face with about 2 hours on it. The dealer gave him a discount on parts and free labor I think. Seems like the best deal you can get out of a bike with no warranty?

I had a 2004 kx250f. It locked up 3 times destroying everything. They ended up replacing everything at no cost. That year model had an issue with bearings coming apart. It was not an easy battle dealing with Kawasaki. we had to go above the dealership and they still didn't want to cover it. When we told them It would be parked at the entrance to the Ponca city national and Lorettas the fallowing week with a sign with all the issues we had out of it they changed their mind real fast. Good luck on getting yours fixed.

First step is call the dealer you bought the bike from.

Call your dealer BEFORE you tear into it then have them call their factory rep,. If it is a part failure they might be able to do something for you. If they don't want to then take it down and go from there

Call your dealer and insist they have a Kawi rep meet you there to discuss it.

We had an issue with a Honda about 13 years ago. Ate a chain slider every ride right off the showroom floor. Bitched and moaned enough to have a guy in a Honda polo come and measure about 30 things on the bike at the dealership.

IMO that's you're only viable option. Get Kawasaki involved from day one before you pull the tank.

I had the same exact situation with my 2012 250, took 6 months, countless calls to kawi and 2 trips back to the dealer, finally they put a new motor in

Thanks everyone for the advice. I ended taking it back to the dealer today and had a pretty good talk with the service manager. Ended up leaving the bike there and they are going to call kawi on monday to see whats up. All i did was wash it then bring it in so im good there. They are going to document everything with pictures and try to make a case for me with the kawi rep. Sucks too because i had to have the lower fork leg replaced, got kawi to cover it, (after alot of back and forth) after the 1st hour due to a defect in bushing on the outer tube. Ive had 8 kx250fs now and never an issue until this one... anyways ill update after i get some more info. Hopefully my experience can help some other people out there if they ever run into a similar issue.

Hope it goes smoothly for you, I had a oddly similar issue with my 12 but I love her now

Update on my situation. I got the bike back from the dealer today. After a lot of run around with the dealer and kawasaki, kawasaki did cover the costs to repair the bike. It looks like the cam chain tensioner was "sticky" from the factory. I got to look at the bike while it was in the shop and the tensioner wouldn't advance if it was compressed and then let go. The motor jumped time and everything went to hell. I will say that while kawasaki did pay for the repairs they did it for as absolutely cheap as possible... and of course everything was my fault... In the end persistence with the dealer and kawasaki did get them to cover it. I put up with a lot of crap from the dealer and kawasaki. Literally it got so bad, name calling and related crap, im no longer using the dealer. To anyone else with extreme issues with new bikes the oem, at least kawasaki, will help you out. My advice, stay as calm and polite as possible and don't give up. Lots of phone calls and face to face with the dealer helped alot. Be polite but don't take any crap. Hope this helps someone else out there.

I hate dealerships. I get they are in it to make money but the bike breaking isnt their fault. Its kawasakis problem. They should, however, be a mediator on your side and fight tooth and nail.

Jeez at least you got it covered...seriously, we pay BIG bucks to get these things new... It's not cheap to buy a bike these days! Any dealer should stand by their product especially a few HOURS into running the bike... A new motor from Kawasaki Japan should NOT blow in 2hours!
