He quit, but the rumors why vary on who you ask.
I went and was hoping to see him there, one of the guys that could have made a big impact on the championship.
bummer.

I was wondering the same thing.. If you look at Saturday's results he's listed way down at the bottom on a Kawi again with no qualifying times beside of his name. I know Regal is back, but I thought Austin was supposed to stay on after Regal's return? Sucks, hope he can get back out there soon.

Yea I was wondering what was up.. With all the fanfare over his return to racing, surely it's gotta come out as to why he suddenly "quit" ???

Even before the Husky ride, he seemed pretty determined to make his come back by any means possible.. Now this?? Hmm..

I would put my money on the fact that the Husky team only has 3 race bikes, and since Regal is back they didn't have a bike for Stroupe.

What's confusing though is the way they announced him as a fill in, then made an announcement specifically saying he'll be with the team for the rest of the AX season, and that it was unknown how long Regal would be out for. Can't understand why they wouldn't just label him officially as a temporary fill in rider..

Fill in announcement.. http://racerxonline.com/2016/02/08/austin-stroupe-to-fill-in-for-injure…

Following week.. http://racerxonline.com/2016/02/16/austin-stroupe-will-race-remainder-o…

Yeah they did make the announcement that they would keep him on for the remainder of the series, maybe Regal came back and they changed their minds? If Austin really did "quit" he probably just blew the last chance he had of becoming a successful racer again.

All missed a former topic that said that the team is in some difficult financial waters?

They had a bike for him, because Gared Steinke was out for the weekend healing an injured foot...take from that what you will.

YESSSS!! I just sa this on pulpmx.com cant wait to hear what the dude has to say....wishful thinking BUT it would be badass if he got that Kawi fill in ride....yes, yes I know thats really far fetched but it would be kick-ass to see him jump back into the SX game on a factory ride and see if he was able to kill it.

He's probably going to need a little more time. A few months back he was just adjusting to Arenacross. You don't want too much, too quick!

That's pretty much what he just said on Pulp.

As much as I would like to see Stroupe resurrect his career, I think the ship that had him and Mitch as cabin mates has sailed. Hopefully there are other opportunities available.

I just listened to his interview on pulpmx. I'm confused, he liked arenacross but maybe he didn't, he had nerves and pressure so he quit to slow things down. He would rather just ride some outdoors and even would be up for racing the Canadian nationals.

He still sounds a little baked or something.

I hope the best for him and would love to see him race more. He's a great talent and awesome to watch race.

I didn't listen to the interview but how does that make sense? The guy was on the podium a few times in Arenacross and he just decides that he isn't ready? There's something that isn't being said with the situation.

Yes, I agree. I am a bit confused. Maybe Pulp needs to call up Junior Jackson next week and have him give a team update.

His speed and results have never been the issue.

Maybe He doesn't deal well with the pressure of racing and that led to other issues and He is realizing the path He is possibly headed down.

My only wish for the guy is to stay clean and sober and have a decent productive life.

He didn't implode overnight. He won't recover overnight. Whatever he needs to do to be sober and healthy is the right path. If that includes racing, then kick ass! If not, then thanks for some great memories. Really pulling for him...

I agree with what you are suggesting 500.

I hope he can lead a good life and would love to see him up here in Canada to race the nationals if that's what he wants.

Didn't Junior head down the same path as Stroupe?? maybe he would have been a good mentor to help him along.

I agree. You dont just all of a sudden change. It takes time and it could be that he started to feel some of the triggers of addiction pulling on him a little harder then he felt he could handle. Probably pretty smart of him to step back for a moment rather then commit to something he may not be ready to finish.

Best of luck to him. Everybody at Vital is pulling for him.

If I had to guess he's fighting some personal issues and realized he shouldn't be racing if he's not straight.

Pure speculation here.

However, after listening to the interview, everyone is saying that they feel that Austin isn't giving the full story, and I agree.
Since Austin has come back, I don't think he has publicly announced what drove him away from the sport to begin with. The vast majority believe it was addiction.

With that being said, I would be curious if him getting that Husky ride wasn't putting him into a similar situation that got him involved with drugs in the first place.

Being clean and sober involves being fairly low-key. Get up, go to work, come home, go to bed, start over. Live modestly.

For a recovering addict (once again, not saying definitively he was) to be thrust back into the lime light, which includes money, stress, and expectations, he may have decided that that was setting him up for future failure. Just my 2 cents

Regardless if I am spot on our totally off, I wish Austin the best.
