when you couldn't wait for the local carry out to get the latest dirt bike or MXA for your monthly moto fix. when you started getting cycle news weekly. East ruled ! When the O'show sported JT boot covers and you thought they were the coolest thing ever. When RJ wore a bandana around his neck and you and your friends had to wear one.

You moved up your shocks.
You kept at least 4 spark plugs in your tool box.
You crushed your down pipe.
You had a giant thick rubber band nearly slap you off your bike when you jumped the start.
You aired out your leather "leathers" because they smelled so bad.
You remember "Elsinores" and why they were called that.
You read Super Hunky's column each month.
Popular Cycling was on your reading list.
The Baz
Your friend sat on the engine box between the seats in your Econoline van.
There was a new company called FMF.
We knew what the letters FMF meant, but we said it was something else.
EC Birt kept us puttin'.
I owned a Noguchi Yamaha.
We cleaned our air filters with gas and put motor oil on them.
You watched On any Sunday in the theater.
You thought about putting a peace dove on your handlebars.
You knew who put a peace dove on their handlebars.
Being 1st American was a victory.

Your first full sized MX bike had a MSRP under $1000.00 and the salesman took 10% off the sale plus threw in hats, jerseys,2 stroke oil spark plugs to sweeten the deal.

You know what a DeBruzer is

You know who John Roeder is and how he became infamous.

You know who Fred Phalange is.

You know what a 'tickler' is for.

You know the proper position for brake and clutch levers.

You know what a '500/18' is.

You know what 'THOR' stands for.

You know what a 'Race Face' is.

You know what a 'floating rear brake' was and why it was necessary.

You know what BASS stands for.

When you installed a PK pipe and replaced your fork bolts with "air caps" to get that 5" of travel on your 1975 XR75. Your Christmas list consisted of Scott goggles/face mask combo or a pair of leathers made out of jean material.

I did get a DG gear bag that year and still have it.

Yeah that'd just about run it's course when I was first getting into the sport. I think Kurt Nicoll was perhaps one of the last to be wearing one in 93..

Pretty crazy in retrospect.
