OH well. It was fun, but a man's got to do what a man's got to do. Have fun in whatever you do next.

Hope he does industry stuff like Charmichael and McGrath. It still great for the fans to see them around the race track in some capacity.

If I had to guess, he has rookies knocking down his door to hire him as his dedicated coach. If I had money, that what I would do.

Any other guesses?

So he goes out with a Larry Loopout...
that's incredibly rude. Show some respect to a legend.

Congrats on your retirement Ryan, I wish the best for you and your wife as y'all begin the next chapter of life!

My Idea is he has about 10-12 million in savings /safe investments. That's 1 million a year in returns if he never touches the principal. I am sure he and his family will live happy ever after.

He has given his life to the sport and knows only motocross. I can't imagine we see him for a few years. He is not exactly the guy that wants to be in the spot light.

I think he will move on and start enjoying life. Maybe he coaches Tyler a little but I really don't see him ever touching motocross again.

sucks, I hope someone else picks up the torch and gives the MXGPs another go. It was awesome having one of our boys in the mix.

My guess is that we won't see much of Ryan Villopoto.

I'm kinda saddened that after such a stellar career he'll go out with his legacy tainted by the fact that he was pretty much a 4th place guy on the MXGP circuit.

I really had hoped that his pride wouldn't have allowed him to go out like this:

Oh well.

No doubt he's a legend, but I wanted to see him come back and get another W before his exit.

Was excellent to see him grow and race, forget the crap, remember the good.

Ginger ninja speed !

Certainly one of the best.

Not everybody can go out like the GOAT on top, not to mention a part time season where he STILL whooped up on the whole field. (Even with his stupid black hair at the 2007 MXdN).

Maybe Ryan takes a couple years off, misses it, and pulls a Christian Craig...Who knows.

Pretty sad i didn't get to see him during a GP this year, he was out before they reached the BeNeLux area ;(
I do respect his choices. He had one of the most impressive carreers ever. Achieved legendary stuff and won many titles.

I've been a fan ever since i downloaded a video of him and Greg Albertyn riding together when he was on a 80 / 85 cc kawasaki at Glen Helen in the early 2000s.

Good that he finally made the announcement that most had already anticipated. Good on him! He has nothing to prove to anybody, and will always be in the list of the "best riders ever" in our sport.

Congratulations on a stellar career to RV and his family. I really hope he enjoys his retirement. I imagine his next few years will involve many trips and lots of ammo.

Thats to bad, but we all new he was done w/ racing last year. His head wasn't in it & it got him hurt. Good luck RV2. I guess we wont be hearing from him anymore?

In hindsight, I bet everyone involved with this MXGP deal wishes Kawasaki would have just let him walk away last season when he wanted to.

"Nine professional AMA national championships places him second in the record books behind only Ricky Carmichael."

That says it all. Great rider.

He is and will always be one of the greatest motocross racers of all time. Still will enjoy watching him ride on Youtube. To me his riding style was a pleasure to watch. He flows with the bike as if they are one. He was a hard charger and gave it his all every time on the track. No holding back... Good luck to RV2 in what ever he does...

I just hope the guy throws a leg over a bike and goes riding FOR FUN now--too many pros hang it up and you never see them again. You guys in the Northwest, let us know if you see a really fast redhead with a huge smile on his face ripping around Washougal, just for the fun of it now.

That sucks man.. I really thought he'd have another go at MXGP next year before calling it a career. Ah well, he's earned it! Enjoy it RV! Thanks for the memories!
