WOW! That bike for that price is a steal. I would love to have found one like that. Not sure I would have even rode it once I built it the way I wanted it.

Attention was devoted away from the bike for a while but I finally took some time and put the finishing touches on it. It has been just short of a year since I bought this but Im excited the way it turned out. Not sure how many hours I have into it but I would say it is a lot. Tht shine doesnt come without time. Hope everyone enjoys it!

Wow. Great work man, it looks epic! Love the heat shield under the tank. Glad I could give you a couple pointers there in the beginning.Tongue

B1rdman93, first of all I have to say what an amazing job on the rebuild. I'm honestly inspired to see what my bike can be because of this thread. I too am an owner of an '03 KX125. I bought the bike my sophomore year of high school(2007) for $1400. It was a huge improvement from my XR100. I've decided to never part with the bike. I've put $2000+ into the bike over the years just in regular maintenance, as any owner can attest to. This winter I am planning to do a complete rebuild of the bike. Now I've done most of my own work, but as far as suspension goes, I don't know where to begin. I was thinking of taking the simple route and sending my forks and rear shock to factory connection, or any other suspension company(based on reviews) for that matter but I wanted to know if anyone has fitted 250f forks to a 125. I would also like to know, B1rdman93, how the rebuilt '03 suspension feels. I'm almost certain I remember you saying you were also questioning both options but decided to have the '03 suspension rebuilt. Now I know rebuilt suspension is, well, rebuilt, but honestly if I could put forks from a 2010 on, wouldn't you? Not sure wether or not swapping out forks would then require changing of the triple clamps but I'd like to find out as much as possible before I have parts scattered. Again, amazing job on the rebuild. So clean!

KXGerman,

The rebuilt suspension actually feels really good and Im on the heavier side for a 125. I did debate buying updated forks but that idea came after I had already had the 03 suspension rebuilt. As far as adding new forks to the 03 clamps, youll want to measure the size of forks in diameter to make sure they will be not be too big or too small. If they are too small you can make some shims to fit. Im not sure how new clamps would fit on the 03. My guess is you would have to match dimensions of the steering stim, etc with those of a newer model. Ebay has some killer deals on forks that are in pretty good condition. Anything kx250f or 450f would work. Recommend finding someone that has a newer bike thatll let you try out their front end.

Where did you get your radiator braces and your frame guards from. Thanks

I didn't doubt that you would turn it into a nice looking bike but this is way beyond my expectations! Well done!
Regarding the suspension (I guess this goes out to KXGerman), I would keep my eyes open for a used set of Öhlins. You can get them really cheap nowdays and they are a huge improvement over the stock KYB suspension.

Mxracer74: The frame guards are just grip tape. The radiator braces I got lucky and found on ebay for $30, brand new. I looked everyday for several weeks for random parts like those.

Henry: Thank you! Im enjoying the way it turned out. Im pretty picky about how I like things to look. Especially the little details so I took my time to make it pop here and there.

That bike came out great!

This build is being featured in our directory here: http://www.bikebuilds.net/kawasaki-kx-125-build-by-b1rdman93

At this point, we're only displaying a reduced-size photo (similar to what you'd find in Google Images). We'd like to ask for your permission to publish the original full-size image with your build listing.

If anyone would like to have a build of their own listed, just send me a message with a link to the build thread and we'll take care of the rest.

What a transformation! Thankfully this is the first time I've seen the thread so I didn't need to wait months for the progression, but still enjoyed seeing your photos from start to finish. Looks stunning dude, get another project on the go!

Great job looks amazing. Where did you get the clutch cover re-annodized? Or is it new?

I never really priced everything together. But with a completely redone motor and all the little detailed parts I bought, I would say I spent $3000 - $3500.

The original one had a stratch on it, which in the long run would have been covered by the brake pedal, but knowing it was there bothered me. I tried to polish it and it didnt come out looking very good so I ended up buying a new stock one.

Dang! I saw the 93 and Parrot and said "that's gotta be him". You and Cory Self used to put on a good show at Highlands. It's good to see you still involved. I'm Mark Slade's dad. Tell your pops I said hello. And great job on the KX. Awesome build.

Nice KX I'm in the process of rebuilding an 01 125, still have to rebuild the forks and respring them. changed out every goddamn bearing in the swing arm and linkage (pretty sure the last time they were greased was when it was in japan) still need new sprockets and tires. already rebuilt and resprung the shock as well and a new top end. going to be going with a custom factory effex graphics kit which probably wont happen until their next black friday sale haha
