So because you miss racing and would trade him in a heartbeat, you think he shouldn't treat it as simply a job? I get that you're job is stressful and has long hours, but boo fricken hoo...chin up Cinderella!

No. Nice try though. Ryan doesn't care what I think, nor should he. It has everything to do with his quality of life, and then him thinking it's just a job. It's not. It's a damn gift what he has, and his life. Just like it is for most of us.

I said my life is awesome. It is. I'm thankful every day. It is a grind though, but it's still awesome. If I had his attitude, I'd expect some hard working person, working for wages, etc... to slap me a good one. Because like I eluded to, he didn't choose all the results, skill and victory. much of it is luck, circumstance and hard work of others around him. Like his parents for instance. If I was a betting man, I'd say a ton of his begrudging attitude, is due to his family stresses, etc that they experienced. They certainly did. These aren't problems that only celebrities or professional athletes experience. It's life.

Nah... nevermind. You know what? Excellent interview. I'm truly glad he spoke honestly. It is just a job. He didn't choose it. Poor Ryan. He has to do a job, and get paid millions for it, travel the world, and have expectations put on him. That's terrible. Must drive the will to live right out of him. I don't know how he carries on. He should retire. Wink
Ya know, I seem to remember a different thread where you were singing a completely different tune. It went something like this:

"Guys/gals... I think that MOST professional riders are like you and I. They are just really fast on a murdercycle. They often want to tell the truth, tell the whole story, but can't due to legal obligations, sponsors, risk of reprisal from insurance companies, agents meddling... or agents giving great advice because they understand the complexity of the rider contracts and obligations.

Now... on top of that, most average doorknobs have NO IDEA what it's like to be a professional athlete and have hugely compromised privacy and to have hundreds of people constantly wanting a piece of you. These guys have demands that most people can't begin to understand.

You almost CANT open up to anyone, because people get weird. Even good people get really weird sometimes around supposed "celebrities". Just people watch a bit.... the people around the superstars in the pits, or at a function.
They act like zombie fan freaks. It's quite amazing really. I think if you aren't an attention seeker, all of the fan crap, media, stupid star struck people would REALLY wear on a person.

Seriously... 99% of people have no idea. it is RELENTLESS. For every five great fans, that respect and just quietly admire, there's one that you just can't please, and will be idiots.

That is why there are contracts written, with public c engagements written in very clearly, etc. It's because it has to be clear for both parties. Professional athletes feel like a piece of purchased meat most of the time, and it is hard to tell true friends from cling ons.

These guys owe us a hard charging ride, a bit of interview, and that's about it. The rest is their life, no one else's."

Now mad max, why the sudden change of tone? I mean going as far as to call him a "whiney bitch" and a "Cinderella?" really dude? What does he owe you besides a hard charging ride, a bit if an interview and that's about it? Seems like to me that he satisfied both of those criteria and it still obviously wasn't enough for you??.

But... as for his truth... Boo Frikkin Hoo. Chin up cinderella. it beats grinding it out in a job. Reality has a way of learning these guys up.

And yes... absolutely... Go RV.

What exactly do you mean "grinding it out" at a job? I can only speak for myself, but I'm not exactly running my body into the ground and risking serious injury or death everytime I go to work.
Also he says lots of people would love to be in his shoes and try just as hard (paraphrasing). This is not true. Very few people have what it takes with will and determination to be a pro athlete. And even less have the drive to reach the absolute top step of their sport. Madmax you are full of shit if you truly believe that.

Crap!! dude, you aren't supposed to go back on my other posts where I am stirring up the robotic fan boys! Haha! BUSTED!!

Touche' sir. Touche'!

Fun while it lasted, and you stayed ON POINT!
I concede. It was just getting fun though...

The off season sucks. I'm flying down to the MEC, and I can't wait! I just wish RV was going to be there. Well, maybe I don't. At least the other guys will have a chance. Smile

I'll admit, your response kind of caught me off guard because I specifically remember reading some of your posts from previous topics and liking what you had to say. This one was like Jekyll and Hyde, haha

Guilty!! Lmao!

Seriously though, my heart on this is somewhere down the middle. I can't help but respect the angry ginger leprechaun cause frikk is that guy incredibly talented. Maybe that's what kind of irks me. He's that good... and it's a job.

Living in the public eye, and having that much pressure must really wear on a guy. I keep in touch with a pro hockey player. He says prettt much the same thing. If it was as simple as just hockey, and not dealing with the cling-ons and fan boys... it would be a great life. Smile

I really don't see what the huge deal is about this interview/ Was it a good read? Sure. Anything completely surprising? Not at all.

I'm still trying to figure out how RV's decision to go to the GPs has "rocked the sport to the core" ?? Huh

Funny that Villopoto's puppet master couldn't keep his mouth shut, as if Ryan isn't allowed to speak for himself....

Nice back peddle, nobody believes your crap. The lack of respect from your posts was just rediculous, no fricken wonder he never gives interviews like that, I wouldn't either if I know some nut jobs would bash the piss out of me publicly. It's all good though, saying it was just for fun makes everything alright.Dry

I hope he kills it next year and retires happy, then maybe these idiots would finally shut up.

I liked when Ryan actually told the truth ,that the move to mxgp had been long in planning and had nothing to do with his knee injury, his spin doctor put a stop to that shit.

cracking interview with the pair *ahem* of them.. always nice to shed some light on some of the matters...

minor point, he lined up in 2009 and didn't win the MX championship.... went 1-1 at GH and then injured himself and pulled out after the first moto at Hangtown

Well, I don't think we have to worry about him cruising around to "collect a check", as some have suggested...

Sounds like he's all in, can't wait to see what happens.

Great interview.

I honestly cannot wait for this, I'll be taking my 5 and 2 year olds to as many of the European GPs as I can afford next year.

If the guys that used to film the Great Outdoors documented Ryans prep this winter along with Tony, Desalle, Paulin and Co as well as the entire 2015 GP series, that would sell well both sides of the pond!

I'm a massive Cairolli fan but I'll be cheering RV on equally so and would love to see him take the title. Hope he settles quick and enjoys the GP paddock and maybe even does a few rounds of the Belgian Championship?

Out of any other current AMA riders, who do you think would be inclined go after MXGP championship?

I could see Wilson doing a year eventually.

Great interview....Travel the World....Make tons of money...Race....Possibly retire with a GP Championship and, if not, still had a great time trying to pull it off.

Good read.

Sad that he's only doing it one year, though. I'd like to see him over there for a few years.

The only persons feelings hurt in this, is yours. I can 100% guarantee you, POTO DONT GIVE A DAMN. Never has. That's why he doesn't release much.

Maybe you should call him up and snuggle him and beep his nose if you think he cares so much. You go boy. You go.

I was thinking 2 years would be perfect, as he can beat Cairoli the first year, and Herlings the second. Wink

it just hit me.........
any smart business manager would tell RV to take the official position that he is retiring after this year.
Why?
Just imagine, he competes in 2015 and wins or looses, does not matter, what happens is the MXGP promoter makes a bunch of money right.......
You know what then happens at the end of the GP season when RV is officially retiring..... Mr. Luongo is going to be knocking on RV's business manager's door offering a few million for RV to return in 2016
Whereas if the official stand right now was that RV is planing to race two years, then there would be no chance of sticking a few extra million in the bank from Mr. Luongo,
just saying -----------

regarding my last post - of course this is not what we are used to in the mx world and is not what fans like, we prefer honest racers who just simply tell it the way it is, but you read yourself in his interview, he makes his announcements based on how much money it makes him, not on the preferences of his fans..... having said that, the impression i got from the interview - assuming this all came from RV himself --- is that he is a smart young man and I like him - I remember when he just hit the pros, one of his first interviews, he said he did not believe in confidence what so ever, you just show up at the race and the guy that goes around the fastest wins, it has nothing to do with confidence - Emig never read that interview apparently because every second word from Jeff's mount is confidence, confidence this confidence that.....
