Hi guys, new to the forum. Figured i could use some advice from you all. I have an 05 KX250F. I was riding yesturday in Southwick, Mass MX338 and something defiantly went wrong with my bike. I took a fall in a corner when I got back on the bike my 2nd gear was clicking, skipping, locking up, making really unnormal noises. Every other gear on the bike works thoe, this only occurs in 2nd gear and this problem only started right after I went down. Thank you very much for all your input I just would like to know if it's something I could fix myself or an easy fix. Thank you very much.

Sounds like you've warped/cracked either a shift fork or the shift drum. It's not a super easy fix, matter of fact as far as bike work goes.. it's kind of the biggest pain in the butt. If you feel the need to do it yourself, invest in a Flywheel puller, a case splitter, and obviously some metric sockets (including a 27mm, I believe). Oh, and I almost forgot, A. SERVICE. MANUAL.

Thank you very much for your reply, and I deff won't be involved in trying to fix this myself if it has something to do with splitting my case.. I know a couple good mechanics nearby but how much do you think something like this will run me? It won't be brought to a dealer or any type of buisness.

I couldn't tell you, all depends on your mechanic I guess. I've seen bottom end labor run from $150-600 (The being cheap to really expensive, all legitimate quotes). Typically in my area a private mechanic will charge about $250 do it.

Thank you very much sir. I will call my local mechanic soon to see what his input and price is. Someone at the track said that it was the 2nd gear clutch plate.. Could my clutch plates be the issue? Or were there couple people clueless. Thank you for your replies.

Haha, most likely clueless. If it were a clutch issue, you would be having the problem through every gear.. not just second.

I saw this on a 2006 unit and it had a broken 2nd gear.
