Yeah, the motors on the pre-2002 CRs are bad-ss. Honda made changes in 02 and lost some of the bottom end. They tried to fix it in 05 but messed up the shape of the head, causing the 05-07 CRs to ping and detonate on pump gas. I have considered trying to wedge a 99-01 motor in my 07.

ive got the 1999 cr250 bought it recently! plenty of power, them power bands feel great! :-)!
iam polishing the aluminum frame and swing arm, i think it will look excellent. it is already in mint condition as its been dry stored for years.

i own a 2003 honda CR250 and very proud of my bike! it can pull and hang w/the 4 strokes.. in my class in north dakota and minnesota. it all boils down to the rider! i like the idea of 1 kick to start then sit there and use all your energy up kicking that 4 banger....i will ride 2 strokes as long as they have parts for my bike...

I know everyone thinks you have to have a 4 stroke to win, but i bought a 250 2 stroke this year after riding 4 strokes for 4 years. I know im as fast as i was on my 450. Plus since it is the last year of the CR250 im going to hold on to it.

I am a Honda man, always have and always will ride Red. This bike is very fast,don`t read into what other mags say about the motor. Yes it’s a little low in power at low RPMs, but what the hell, nothing a little work and jetting can’t fix. I run a Vforce 3 reed block, put a 50t rear sprocket on and jetting changes, feels awesome.
