Slick Offroad Wash

Something that we often see at the Nationals is the team mechanics pre-washing the bikes. In other words, before they break out the power washers, they'll use a pre-wash to allow it to soak in, break down the adhesion between the dirt and the bike underneath. If you live in an area with a lot of clay in the dirt, you know how it is. By the time you get home, the dirt has hardened to something the consistency of concrete, and it's tough to get off no matter what.

In the past we've used products with trigger sprayers, but if you're looking for a good way to boost your post ride finger pump, that's one way to do it for sure. That's why we were psyched when the guys at Slick Offroad Wash sent over one of their kits to try. It uses a one-gallon pump sprayer, in this case a Flo Master model 1401-P. All you have to do is add a gallon of water, pour in one of their pre-measured packes of super concentrate wash, and give it three or four pumps to pressurize, and you're ready to pre-soak your bike.

The wash itself is designed to attack dirt. It's also said to prevent stains, but isn't a stain remover, because there are no acids in the formula. On the other hand it's also designed to go easy on grease, so you don't have to worry about hurting the performance of your wheel bearings or suspension pivot points. It's also completely biodegradable, and green-friendly.

The setup that we got here in the Vital MX headquarters was the Slick Total Experience Package ($34.99), which included the sprayer, three packs of the Slick Offroad Wash concentrate, and some extras, like a drink koozie, bottle opener, and stockers. Single refill packs are $5.99, and various quantities are available on www.slickoffroad.com, in six ($32.99)or 12-packs ($59.99), all the way up to a 20 pack ($89.99), which reduces the cost of the refills to only $4.49 each.

Using the pump sprayer, it doesn't coat the bike with an excessive amount of the wash, and it soaks in quickly. If you do like the guys at Slick Offroad suggest, and soak the bike before unloading the rest of your equipment and tossing your gear in the washer, it gives it sufficient time to work before you return to hose it down, and it worked very well at getting the dirt to release.
