Perhaps they aren't even running a closed loop system, just gathering data.

My guess would be that a closed-loop system would be unnecessary after the relevant metrics are found - I'd guess barring significant temperature change the variables would remain pretty static.

Gibby, why do the J-Star guys remove the 02 sensors? Rules?

My guess is they go through sound without it, could run it in practice to gather data, and then have to race with how they sound tested.
