Once the main event was restarted, Ricky Carmichael jumped into the lead on his Makita Suzuki. Lap after lap he and James Stewart would charge into this whoop section, with Carmichael opting for the far right, while Stewart chose the far left. James later passed RC in the 180-degree turn at the end of this section.
