Yoshimura Sweeps 450 Supercross Podium in Texas

Chino, Calif. – March 23, 2010 – Ryan Dungey came to Texas with
the same goal he always has: emerge from the event with a win. That is
exactly what he did, and in doing so he became the first rider in
history to win a Supercross main event at the incredible new Cowboys
Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

With Yoshimura pipes helping make
the most out of their bikes, Ryan Dungey, Davi Millsaps, and Trey Canard
went 1-2-3 in the main event. The start of the race was predictable:
two corners into the race, Dungey and his Yoshimura-powered RM-Z450
passed for the lead and checked out. Millsaps passed into second and was
slowly catching up to Dungey. The real news, with six laps to go, was
Yoshimura-equipped rider Trey Canard moving up into third on his Honda
CRF450. That put Yoshimura bikes in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place as the
checkered flag waved.

Dungey was elated on the podium. “We
worked really hard this week and it paid off. It feels great to be up on
the podium again. I’ve got a lot of momentum going into the next race
in Jacksonville now.”

The win marks Dungey’s fourth of the 2010
season and stretches his points lead to 24 ahead of second place.

In
the Eastern Regional Lites class, Rockstar Makita Suzuki’s Austin
Stroupe looked fast all night. Stroupe won his heat race easily and set
second fastest time in qualifying. At the start of the main event
heading into turn one, Austin was in the lead when several riders on the
inside got together and caused 15 riders to go down, including Austin.
Stroupe regrouped and took off in 7th place with his work cut out for
him. Stroupe tried to shake off the effects of the first turn pileup,
but ended up having a get off mid-race. Despite that, Stroupe managed to
finish in 5th. Considering that his chief rival in points finished
behind him, it was a good result. “There was a lot of bad luck for
Stroupe,” Team Manager Roger DeCoster said. “It’s a shame that we didn’t
win tonight, because Austin was looking like he was the fastest guy out
there.”

The next race in the 2010 AMA Supercross series takes
place in Jacksonville, Florida, on Saturday, March
27
.
