Cypress, California, November 15, 2007 – Yamaha Motor Corporation is pleased to introduce our factory supported SuperMoto race team for the 2008 SuperMoto season.
Flying under the Graves Motorsports flag Yamaha’s 2007 AMA SuperMoto effort could not have gone any better. With Mark Burkhart riding a YZ450F in the SuperMoto Class and Brandon Currie riding a YZ250F in the SuperMoto Lites Class the season ended with both riders taking home their respective titles.
After making a preseason promise to smooth out his style and be more consistent Burkhart did just that winning 6 out of 10 races and finishing on the podium 8 out of 10 races. When asked about winning the title Mark said, “This championship really is for Doug Henry. It is such an inspiration having him come to these races. Doug deserves this championship more than any of us on the podium.”
Mark’s heroic efforts have earned him a nomination for the AMA’s prestigious “Athlete of the Year Award.”
Not to be outdone in the consistency department by his teammate, Brandon Currie won his SuperMoto Lites title with an equally impressive season that saw him win 4 main events and finish runner up in the other 6.
So for 2008, Yamaha is pleased to announce that we aren’t changing a thing with our SuperMoto race team that brought home two titles in 2007. As far as we’re concerned if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Graves Motorsports, Burkhart and Currie will go into the 2008 season ready to defend their titles with Doug Henry right by their side as Race Team Advisor.
