 ON WINGS FOR LIFE

Three-year-old Wings for Life has a strong relationship with motorbike racing; it was set up by former Motocross Champion Heinz Kinigadner after his son Hannes had a tragic accident while racing for charity in the summer of 2003.

The Kinigadner family was in front of a desert once they tried to find medical resources for treating spinal injuries, and so were many other people.

With the help of his friend Dietrich Mateschitz (Founder of Red Bull), Heinz selected a doctor who could support such a heavy task like looking for progress in treating spinal injuries; this is how German Jan Schwab entered Wings for Life as the head of the Foundation.

At that time Dr. Schwab was a 35-year-old Doctor and Researcher and now he has been affiliated at Harvard Medical School.

In Wings for Life he works in close contact with other two people: Italian Vieri Failli, being the Vice-Director in the scientific area, and Austrian Rudolf Theierl, who is the Financial Responsible.

Right outside the medical area there is Heinz Kinigadner, being the image of Wings for Life.

Besides being founding member and tightly involved in strategic decisions of  Wings  for  Life,  the  company Red  Bull supports Wings for Life by compensating  all  accumulating  overhead  costs.  This is why 100% of all donations given to Wings for Life are used to support research.

Wings for Life is actually a world  wide Foundation supporting research projects all over the world: four in the USA, two in France, three in Austria, one in Canada and one cooperation between France and Greece.

Two of the aspects highlighting Wings for Life character are the inspections to the Experimental Medical Centres for treating spinal injuries and the current planning of a Clinical Trial that will hopefully become reality in a short time.

Another aspect of Wings for Life is that the Foundation has no research centres but uses structures that already exist, supporting them with the money they need to go forward with research. This is how Wings for Life makes the most of the precious funding they receive from people and will now receive from motor sport fans.
