September 7, 2010 - Corona, CA AMA Motocross - Delmont, PA It was a difficult and unlucky weekend for the Troy Lee Designs / Lucas Oil / Honda team. While every rider on the team rode well at some point in the day, they just couldn't piece together two solid motos to post a solid overall. Ben Townley opened the day with a second place start in moto one. He rode tight initially and dropped several spots to fifth. Once he figured out some lines he was able to move back up into third by the end of the race. What we couldn't see was that Ben had taken a rock to the face and had fractured his nose on the opening lap. He considered pulling in but toughed it out and scored good points. It was a good start to the day and BT was looking good to land another premier class podium. The second moto start looked like another top five but just as Ben reached the first turn he locked bars with another rider and was sent flying. Ben got up from the crash but was shaken and did not return to racing. His 3-37 finishes would place him in tenth overall, not what the Kiwi was looking for. "I've just been really disappointed with the way my last four races have gone," said Ben after the race. "I know I can be racing at the front and there's no reason I should be off the podium right now, really. I'm just making mistakes and getting a little unlucky with situations like today. Hopefully I can end the season on a good note at Pala." The 250 riders both showed flashes of brilliance but their results don't show it. Cole Seely was flying in moto one and ran inside the top five for much of the race. He got punted off the track late in the race by another rider and could only get back to 11th at the finish. His second moto would be even more frustrating and a 15th coupled with his 11th put him in 14th overall. Wil Hahn had a good first moto, finishing a strong fifth. Wil has become a fixture at the front of the pack this summer and the king of holeshots. His second moto was more of a struggle and he would finish 5-11 for 8th overall. Tarah Gieger broke her streak of podium finishes on the weekend due to some crashes and bad starts. The Puerto Rican native fought through her adversities to finish 4-7 for sixth overall. It was definitely not what she was aiming for. "Today was a bummer," said Tarah. "I had a good run of podiums going and this definitely broke it. My starts put me in bad situations and things just went downhill from there. Next weekend I want to get back up on the box where I belong." The team makes it's way back across the country to California and to the final race of the season at Pala Raceway. With nothing left to lose the team will hang it out and try to end the series on a high note. Come support the TLD squad this weekend at Pala!
