Troy Lee Designs / Lucas Oil / Honda Riders Tackle Budds Creek

The Troy Lee Designs race team put in another solid weekend in Maryland landing inside the top ten once again. The weather was perfect and the racing was intense as Travis Baker, Billy Laninovich and Jessy Nelson went head-to-head with the best riders in the world.

Budds Creek marked Billy Laninovich’s last race for the team this year. Billy wanted to go out with a bang and since Budds Creek is one of his favorite tracks he had high hopes. The first 450 moto didn’t start the way he needed it to, however, and Billy would have to dig out from a 15th place start. He made a few good moves en route to a 13th in the opening race. Moto two started off much better as he came around on the opening lap in fourth place. For the next fifteen minutes Billy proved that he has the ability to race at the front. A quick stall would slow his progress and, unfortunately, Billy would have to pull in late in the race with an electrical issue causing a DNF for the second moto.

Billy will now set his sites on the summer X Games in Los Angeles where he will be competing in the best whip competition. It has been a blast having Billy at the races with the team and the entire Troy Lee Designs/ Lucas Oil/ Honda team would like to thank him for stepping up and helping the team out while Christian Craig healed up.

In the 250 class Travis Baker put together a nice little weekend for himself. Travis used good starts [he was inside the top ten both motos] and solid, consistent riding to secure 12-10 moto finishes for ninth overall. This seems to be Baker’s happy place as he has been just inside the top ten on a regular basis this year.

His teammate, Jessy Nelson, also gated inside the top ten and began moving forward. He was up to seventh and holding for much of the moto but lost a couple positions late in the race to finish 10th. The second moto proved to be more of a struggle for the rookie as he made some mistakes early on. He dropped to 12th but an off-track excursion late in the race cost him one more spot. His moto finishes would earn him 11th overall.

The team gets a well-deserved break now. When racing resumes Christian Craig will be back aboard his CRF450 racing at the front of the pack. The next stop on the tour is Red Bud, Michigan so be sure to come out and support the Troy Lee Designs race team.
