Troy Lee Designs Honda’s Jake Moss Sweeps Night One of ArenOcross

Supercross Competitor Makes Guest Appearance in Arenacross Series

AURORA, Ill. (February 27, 2009) – ArenOcross kicked-off the first of two outstanding nights of racing from the Reno Livestock Events Center and round nine of the 2009 AMA Arenacross Series. With a seven-race break from the Western Regional AMA Supercross Lites class championship, Troy Lee Designs Honda’s Jake Moss, of Temecula, Calif., made a one-race appearance in AMA Arenacross Series racing and set the weekend off right by sweeping both the AMA Arenacross and AMA Arenacross Lites classes.

After suffering a serious injury in the off-season leading up to supercross, Moss was forced to sit out until February, making his 2009 racing debut just three weeks ago. With the mid-season break for supercross in effect, the Troy Lee Honda stable chose to give Moss a chance at more competitive racing by bringing his bike to Reno. Tonight, he capitalized on stellar starts in each main event and dominated en route to completing the first single night sweep of the season.

“I hope all you fans come out tomorrow,” said Moss. “(Hopefully) the good guys get good starts so they can battle the whole race. To win here coming back from a broken back four months ago is amazing.”

As the premier AMA Arenacross Class blasted out of the gates, Team Green House of Kawasaki’s Justin Berry, of Edmond, Okla., grabbed the holeshot but soon crashed out of the race. Moss assumed the lead and never looked back. Last weeks winner, Triple Effect Kawasaki’s Brock Sellards, of Sherodsville, Ohio, overcame and early-race mishap to battle from ninth place and finish in the runner-up position. Defending champion Chad Johnson, of Rhinelander, Wis., battled his way into third after starting in seventh aboard his Babbitt’s Monster Energy Kawasaki.

In the AMA Arenacross Lites main, Callaway Motorsports Kawasaki’s Bruce Rutherford, of Murrieta, Calif., grabbed the holeshot with Moss close behind. Moss would grab the lead early and soldier on to the victory. MDK Speed Equipment Honda’s Tiger Lacey, of Wolf Creek, Ore., worked his way through the field to finish second while Moss’ teammate Sean Borkenhagen, of Huntington Beach, Calif., rounded out the podium in third. Rutherford brought home fourth.

In the Lites Western Regional Championship, GPF Babbitt’s Kawasaki’s Tyler Medaglia, of Ottawa, Canada holds a 12-point lead over Reynard Modifications Suzuki’s Cory Green, of Nowata Okla., with just one race remaining.

Night two of the 2009 ArenOcross continues tomorrow at 7 p.m. from the Livestock Events Center
