Toyota AMA Arenacross Series Opens This Friday in Des Moines

AURORA, Ill. (Oct. 29, 2007) – The 2007-’08 Toyota AMA Arenacross Series opens in Des Moines, Iowa, this Friday, Nov. 2, and runs through Sunday (amateur day) at Wells Fargo Arena – showcasing some of the world’s top arenacross racers in this tight, action-packed form of off road motorcycle racing.

Leading the 70-some professional motorcycle racers vying for starting positions in the elite 15-man main event gate will be the Toyota AMA Arenacross Series’ defending champion, Danny Smith (TUF/Honda) - in the first race of his title defense. Racing his first full year on the Toyota AMA Areancross Series last season, Idaho’s Smith engaged in a epic battle with Oklahoma’s Robbie Reynard (Reynard Modifications/Suzuki) that brought the Toyota AMA Arenacross Series’ title chase down to the last race in Nashville, Tenn. While Smith won the title by 17 points, Reynard, a longtime legend in AMA Motocross/Supercross, won over the fans and is expected to return to action in Des Moines to take another shot at the crown.

“The city of Des Moines has become well known to the arenacross community as the launching pad for the Toyota AMA Arenacross Series,” said Jayme Dalsing, director of arenacross for Live Nation. “Wells Fargo Arena will be packed to see one of the most competitive fields the Toyota AMA Arenacross Series has seen to start the season in the history of the sport.”

Last year at Des Moines Reynard didn’t even qualify for the main event on Friday night – showing just how elevated the competition level was. A new format has been added to the series where the main event will be run on the 250cc four-stroke motorcycles, and Des Moines should prove once again to be a great event to open the upcoming Toyota AMA Arenacross Series season.

Other top teams gunning for the overall win at Wells Fargo include: Monster Energy/Babbitts/Kawasaki, Team Faith Yamaha, GPF/Babbitts/Kawasaki, Carolina Xpress/Suzuki, Team Triple Effect/Kawasaki and GPS Racing.
