FUNCHAL, 27 August 2007 – Youthstream and MSA (Motorsport South Africa) have signed
a five year agreement starting from 2008 until 2012, for the organization of the FIM
Grand Prix of South Africa, to be held at Alkmaar Raceway, near Nelspruit.
Nelspruit is 30 kilometres away from one of the entrance gates to the Kruger Park;
there is an International Airport at Kruger Park, which means that the bikes can be
freighted directly from OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg to Nelspruit.
This of course also means that officials and teams can either fly from Johannesburg
to Nelspruit directly, or for those who want to drive there, it is about a two and a
half hour drive. There are several daily flights from Johannesburg to Nelspruit.
With Nelspruit being situated so close to the Kruger Park, there are many hotels and
accommodation will not be a problem.
“I want to thank MSA, and especially its Managing Director, Mrs. Beaulah Schoeman,
for their investment, will and valuable support in stabilizing the FIM Motocross World
Championship in South Africa.” Youthstream’s President, Giuseppe Luongo said.
“This is the safest solution: by having the contract made directly between
Youthstream and the National Federation, we are able to guarantee everyone a high
level of organization and secure the future of Motocross in South Africa.”
“I am very happy that South Africa will be a venue of the FIM Motocross World
Championship for the years to come,” Dr. Wolfgang Srb, FIM/CMS President, said.
“I wish MSA and Youthstream good luck and a lot of success for this most important
project.”
“MSA is extremely happy that the future of the FIM Grand Prix of South Africa has
been secured for our country for the next five years – especially as this event is
the only World Championship motorsport event in South Africa,” Managing Director of
Motorsport S.A., Beaulah Schoeman, said. “We have always enjoyed an excellent
working relationship with Youthstream and look forward to the challenge of continuing
to host a round in this prestigious FIM World Championship series. MSA extends its
sincere appreciation to Youthstream for their confidence in MSA and work has already
commenced to ensure the success of the event.”
