Teka Suzuki Set For MX1 Opener

After a very productive pre-season period Team Teka Suzuki WMX1 are now preparing to head to round one of the World Motocross Championship at Valkenswaard in Holland this weekend.

The race on April 6 is the first of the 15-round championship and the team starts the series as reigning title-holders in both the manufacturer and individual rider's championships with Belgian racer Steve Ramon.

Entering the 2008 season with an all-new bike and also a new rider - former British champion Ken De Dycker - who will ride alongside Ramon on the aluminium-framed, Electronically Fuel-Injected RM-Z450, the world championship promises to be very exciting for the team.

"In 2007, the team won the manufacturer's world title and finished first and second in the rider's championship with Ramon and Kevin Strijbos," explains team owner Sylvain Geboers. "It will be very difficult to repeat this in 2008 but that is our target.

"We trust that Steve Ramon will be even stronger in 2008 than he was in 2007 and the newcomer Ken De Dycker has already proved in the pre-season races that he is a very strong contender which gives us great hope!"

The team's riders are equally upbeat just days from the season opener. ""I had a very positive pre-season," says Ramon. "My riding is going well, my confidence is high and my fitness is very good. I'm really looking forward to the first GP this weekend."

And De Dycker also feels ready to win. "I've been working hard and I hope I can do well this weekend. I'm looking forward to winning some races and of course I'd like to win the championship too."

The weather forecast for this weekend is for periods of light rain that should help keep the sandy Valkenswaard circuit in prime condition.
